I've read the bad reviews on this thing, but it's just worked for me and is a marvelous piece of engineering. Sure, it's cheaply made, but I don't expect platinum quality for a device that costs less than five bucks. The lock is a necessary feature to learn and it's not that difficult to use. I've used this in a half a dozen countries throughout Europe and it worked well. (I didn't test in the UK, which has been many of the complaints I saw.) I could see how it might not work on some of the recessed type F connectors, but it worked for me in the places I tried it. As an added bonus, this has also allowed me to use a European device that I purchased over here in the states, something I wasn't anticipating and was a great bonus! Just remember, always check your device to make sure it's compatible with the voltage you're plugging into! This isn't a transformer, just an adapter! Also, if your device requires and/or is better used with a ground...know this unit doesn't provide for that and your mileage may vary if you try this with such devices.Customer Review: This is all you need on devices rated for 110-240V AC but...

This is all you need for any one device IF it is rated for universal voltage of 100-240V AC. I travel quite a bit, especially to Europe and I always carry a couple of these adapters in my bag.
Most existing laptops and other electronics are this way these days but some older ones may come with a 110/240V switch so make sure that you check before you plug your device into the foreign outlet, especially if you do it into the outlet of 'higher' voltage.
On this adapter's features:
- Supports both 2-prong and 3-prong US plugs.
- It is NOT a voltage converter. If your device is not rated for 240V chances are it WILL be destroyed if you plug it into a 220/250V outlet. The surge protector MAY help but I personally never tested that :) so be careful.
- Amazingly, for the price, it even offers some surge protection.

I bought this device to use in Europe and because it supposedly is also a surge protector. I have used it daily for a month and had no problems with it. It works with 2 prong US plugs and also 3 prong US plugs. It also works with my old converter/transformer that has European prongs but they aren't long enough to fit into the recessed outlets found in Germany. The design is quite ingenious and I think it would accept every plug in the world. The only problem I've had with this adapter is that I have a few plugs that are heavy. Their weight pulls the adapter out of the socket. I solved this problem by wedging a shoe under the plug or adapter. The European plug does not need to lock in place to use, so I haven't had any issues that other reviewers have. I don't know how good of a surge protector it is and I hope I won't find out. Overall I recommend this adapter. It looks bulky but is very light weight.Customer Review: Simple, versatile, quality adapter

This has worked in all the countries I've tried it (UK, Europe). Yes, they misspelled Africa on the box, but the connections are sound (I tested them with a multimeter).
My only complaint is that you can't always ground your electronic device. Aside from the negligible electrical issues with this, if you have a big bulky plug it might tilt the adapter out of the wall a bit.
Includes surge protector. Nice and compact, no parts to lose or remove. Highly recommended.
The user photo by "Eric B. Wolf "Map Geek"" is not of the device I have - there is no switch. Mine matches all the other photos.
This does NOT convert voltages! Check the country you're going to and read the info on the device you want to use.

I bought this with some hesitation based on the mixed reviews, but it was the best rated small device that worked with mutliple kind of outlets so I decided to give it a shot. It worked wonderfully! I used it in Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and France. It does not do voltage converting. The only electrical item I wound up using on my trip was my camera charger which I charged every night using this adaptor, I checked the manual ahead of time and it worked at both 110 or 220 volts so I only needed the adaptor (this is true for most camera chargers, laptops, and cell phone chargers). A lot of people's problems may be that they are using devices that also need a voltage converter (which are usually pretty large and heavy).
