Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kidz Gear Wired Headphones For KidsCustomer Review: Nice Kids' Headphones, Superior Customer Service Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased these for my 4-year-old daughter's birthday. We were giving her an inexpensive refurbished mp3 player to listen to her music and stories on long trips.
These headphones were definitely designed with children in mind. The sound quality is surprisingly good as most people wouldn't think of children as audiophiles. I would say it is excellent sound for this price bracket of headphones, adult headphones included.
These headphones are definitely designed for small heads and small ears, and there is a wide range of adjustment possible in this range. As a small-headed adult, I can fit the headphones on my head, but the ear cups are too small for my ears, after wearing them a while they become uncomfortable as would be expected. However, the cushions on the ear cups are very soft yet durable and just the perfect size for little ears, my children have no complaints when using them.
A feature I appreciate more than I thought I would is the volume wheel on the cable. It is much easier for my daughter to operate than the mp3 wheel (Sansa) and I can lock the mp3 player so she doesn't accidentally pause or skip the track. What I do is put the headphones and the volume limiting cable on and turn the wheel to full volume. I set it at a comfortable yet audible level then lock the player. My daughter can then turn the volume down if she feels it too loud or if she changes rooms.
The volume limiting cable is a definite asset to this item. It allows for a larger range of volume control in the quieter range that is also safe for small ears. Also, it is interchangeable with any other headphone that uses a mini jack (which most do), so as your children become teenagers there is the possibility for them to continue to use the cable if you can convince them to. :D
The headphones are very durable and have held up well for several months despite my having two very destructive children. The designers must be parents themselves to have developed a headphone suited so well for little ones.
However, despite being perfectly pleased and surprised with how well these headphones work for our needs, what I am most impressed with is the Kidz Gear company. My particular headphone was technically imperfect and they went over, above, and beyond in standing behind their product and ensuring that I received a replacement quickly and at no additional charge. They returned my emails quickly and there were no questions asked once I stated there was a problem. I would purchase any of their products without worrying about receiving something defective or of inferior quality as often is a concern when shopping online.
Customer Review: Great Headphones Summary: 5 Stars
I bought my 4 yr old daughter an MP3 (the Emerson Barbie) player for her birhtday but didn't want her using the earbuds that came with it becaue 1)She has problems keeping them on-they keep falling out and frustrating her and 2)I was concerned about how loud they get.
I chose these headphones beacuse of the affordable price and the numerous good reviews. I have been very pleased with them and my daughter has as well...absolutely no complaints from her.
The headphones have great sound quality - I mean they're not Bose but they well exceed my expectations for any $[...] kid headphones. As for the fit, it is great. The headband is adjustable so that they comfortably fit my 4yr old, 2yr old and myself without slipping or falling off. The earpiece is super cushioned so that they are really soft and pillowy on the ears, very comfortable.
They can get kind of loud though. My daughter's MP3 player has a volume button and if it is turned all the way up and the volume on the headphones is turned all the way up also it is way too loud. I put the MP3 volume on the second lowest setting and adjust the volume setting on the headphones from there. That way, if she turns the headphone volume up, even to the highst setting, it's not going to blow out her eardrum. I did have a conversation with my daughter about ear health and how loud noises can hurt her ears and affect her hearing. This let her understand the importance of keeping the volume at a reasonable level to protect her ears from damage and so far she has done very well. I would suggest that anyone buying headphones for their child have this conversation no matter what brand of headphones you purchase.
Overall, I would highly reccomend these headphones. I'm sure there are much more expensive kid headphones out there that are better but kids break things and I don't want to get all worked up over losing $$ on headphones.
Customer Review: Stellar Headphones for Toddlers and Preschoolers Summary: 5 Stars
We have two sets of these headphones. One for our 2 year old toddler and one for you almost-6-year-old who is a little smaller than most other kids her age. These headphones fit both of them perfectly. The 2 year old's only problem with them is she cannot put them on her own head perfectly, yet...when she goes to put them on the head strap either falls back or forward on her eyes so I have to put them on for her. (This is to be expected and once her dexterity improves this should be no problem, as my 5 1/2 year old has no problems putting them on her own head and getting them to stay in place.)
I tried out the sound myself and the sound is crystal clear and it blocks out all the background noise, which is perfect in the car with distracting noises in the background. Our kids are totally oblivious to us when we ask them a question while they have these headphones on.
I can't really speak for the volume adjuster that's on the cord - we just use the volume adjuster on our DVD player. I prefer to be in control of the loudness as I don't want the kids blasting out their eardrums so I didn't even show them this feature.
Fantastic headphones and I highly recommend them!
***UPDATE AFTER 1 MONTH***
One pair is still in excellent working condition. The other pair...well, the right ear speaker went out after 2 weeks and then after a month, I don't know what happened but the part where you plug into your electronic equipment broke off and just the wire is sticking out. I can't imagine my kids were too rough on it. Anyway, we had to completely throw away that one set, but the other one is still in perfect working condition. I guess we just got unlucky with the one set.
Customer Review: perfect Summary: 5 Stars
We could not be happier with these headphones. The adult headphones we previously used for our four year old worked very poorly for her. They were uncomfortable, did not stay on, and she could not hear well at all with them.
These kidz gear headphones solve all of those problems and add important other features. They are comfortable and stay on great. Because they are cup style headphones, they block out external sound better and she can hear well even in loud places like her older sister's basketball games, which means that her mom and I can enjoy the game.
These headphones have a convenient clip and volume adjustment that makes it easy for her to adjust the volume on her own. We have always been careful to avoid in ear headphones so we do not damage their hearing, but we did not consider volume level. These headphones come with a volume limiting adapter that keeps my little one from turning it up too loud.
By the way, when I was testing the volume limiter (the headphones expand up large enough to accommodate an adult's head) I noticed that the sound was cutting out on the right ear. I left a message with the manufacturer. They called back right away and sent me two replacement volume limiters, which arrived a day or two later. Then we got a call to make sure everything was resolved to our satisfaction. Awesome.
One other note. These guys sell a stereo headphone splitter cable which is very inexpensive. http://www.amazon.com/Kidz-Gear-Headphone-Splitter-Adapter/dp/B0044FSSMY/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1295725153&sr=1-2 We bought one from walmart that works just fine, but we could have bought one from kidz gear for less.
Customer Review: Love them so much, I bought them twice! Summary: 5 Stars
My preschool-aged son loves to listen to "his music" in the car. It calms him and keeps him occupied. Our Suburban has a rear-entertainment system, so that if we plug headphones in, he can listen to something, and we can listen to something else in the front.
Especially on a long trip, this feature is priceless! However, having him use adult-sized earbuds or headphones often lead to frustration, as they fell out of his ears, or proper volume control was difficult because the headphones weren't situated properly.
We got these when he was four, and most notably used them on a multi-day long driving trip last summer. He wore them for hours and hours. Because our car is a kid kind of car, the headphones were often on the floor as we got in and out, or hidden under a pile of other things we brought to entertain him. They held up fine.
At the end of the summer, the cord was stuck in between the seats, and he was trying to yank them out (throwing a bit of a preschooler fit), and the cord came out -- rendering them useless. I honestly don't think that this is reflective of the workmanship. They were stuck firmly, and he pulled hard, so of course they broke.
But the fact that I was willing to fork out the $ to buy them again should prove their worth. These are great headphones for young children!!
