Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kicker ZK500 Zune Speaker Dock (Black)Customer Review: Small but very powerful and loud. Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this model for a couple of months now, and just recently purchased the zk350. While the zk500 is large is not much larger than zk350. I like both very much the quality on both is very good, though the zk350 accepts the zune hd without much problems. The zk500 you can change and everything while in dock position, but it you raise the volume, you have to press play on remote to resume music. This zk350 has already addressed this problem and has very no problems, you would only need to reset every once in a while if controls freeze. No major hassle and very much the nature of most electronics. But it not much of nuisance for the power you get, you can always just use the aux in.
Audio wise zk350(149.99) has alot of power and bass, but not as much as the zk500(179.99). To put it in prospective, the zk500 has 40 volume level, the zk350 on its loudest level sounds like 25-30 on the zk500. But of course zk350 speakers are smaller and whole unit is smaller. But still the zk350 is very loud, and easily fills a room. I tried it in my kitchen/living/dinning room area, which has 12 foot high ceiling and kinda large area, and sounded very good, and not lacking. So for a regular room sounds great(you have to use it a while loudly, to break in new speakers to sound good), of course the zk500 fills the larger room alot better and the bass can be heard solidly outside when at max power . ZK350 is about the size of 2 loaves of bread stacked on top of each other. The zk500 is a little longer and about 3 loaves on top of each other, but still carry-able. But for 179.99 its a very good deal. I also have the ihome alarm/dock for zune(99.99), and i know it not in the same class, but for price range it worth the 50 more dollars for zk350.
P.S.
I use the zk500 to watch fights/games/parties connected to projector outside. I would consider the zk350 too, but it would lack a little bit, but its not it fault since it is smaller. To put it this way i had maybe 20-30 people at a party and this zk500 is loud enough to drown out conversations. It can even be loudly heard from the front of the house when party is in back, even heard by my friend 3 houses down. I even gave one to my father-law for bbq's so he wont have to log around the large boom boxes, this is smaller and better.
