Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Keyspan by Tripp Lite USA-19HS Hi-Speed USB Serial Adapter, PC, MAC, supports Cisco Break SequenceCustomer Review: Happy Mac User Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this product after trying a different USB Serial adaptor that didn't work with my mac.
I've been having a lot of trouble connected my serial touchscreen with my Mac Pro, and this is the only port so far that has worked for me!
Installation isn't quite plug-and-play. You need to install the software driver, then wait for your computer to recognize the adaptor. Try opening system preferences if it's taking a while. Then you also need to configure the device you are connecting to your computer - you need to help it find the serial port it should use. But once it's set up it seems to work great!
It's really great that Keyspan has kept it's drivers up to date. It's been a challenge to find a USB-Serial Adaptor that works with Mac OS X, but this is it!
Customer Review: Looked a Looonnnggg time Summary: 5 Stars
I have at least two other useless total failures for rs232-to-usb converters. WinXP drivers ???? we have not XP driver just plug-it in ..... That is what I heard before despite promise of just plug-and-pray they never work.
While at work I mentioned my problem of replacing my old Win98 machine, it monitors my solar power system via RS232.
I borrowed his Keyspan down loaded the driver (Win7 64bit)and plugged it in, it worked!!! Next I loaded the Solar Client software and that worked also!!
I checked the Keyspan on WinXP SP3 also and it worked there also!!
YES! I can recommend this product. As a matter-of-fact it is the only rs232-to-usb I would recommend as it is the only one I tried that actually worked!!
Customer Review: Windows 7 64-bit and Home Theater Master MX-800 Summary: 5 Stars
I recently found myself with no computers at the house that still had a serial port. This was a problem when trying to program via a serial interface for a Home Theater Master MX-800 remote. I initially ordered and tried the Cables Unlimited USB-2920 USB 2.0 to Serial DB9 Adapter and it simply didn't work. After doing a little more research, I decided to purchase the slightly more expensive Keyspan High Speed USB Serial Adapter (USA-19HS). When it arrived, I inserted the CD and didn't see a Windows 7 driver and there were no instructions. I went to the Keyspan website and found/installed the Windows 7 beta driver. I plugged in the adapter, started the MX-800 software and configured it to match the serial port (in my case COM6) and it worked perfectly!
Customer Review: Works great on XP right out of the box Summary: 5 Stars
The Keyspan USA-19HS worked flawlessly for us right out of the box, using the driver from the included CD. Our torture testing included self-loopback on an XP laptop, from COM1 (internal UART serial port) to COM14 (where our TRENDnet port showed up), sending a thousdand 1099-byte blocks at 115200bps from one program to another, which echoed the blocks back to the first program for comparison after short delay. [So, this is really "half-duplex" testing, but that's what we bought them for, so that's what we tested.] The detachable standard USB cable -- which lets us connect whatever length we need, and the LED -- which shows when we've opened the virtual COM port, are valuable features that make this unit worth a bit more than some economy models.
Customer Review: Works when all others fail Summary: 5 Stars
Allows me to program motor controllers from a computer without an RS232 port. Vista driver on the included CD-ROM loads fine on a Windows 7 Premium laptop and a new netbook running Windows 7 Basic. Remember to install the driver BEFORE plugging in the USB, otherwise Windows may try to load the wrong one.
In my case, I also had to go into the port settings and select hardware flow control before the device would work. With all the other settings optimized for speed, the adapter was as fast as a "real" serial port. No crashes or errors so far.
This product simply works and was shipped promptly. I just placeed an order for five more Keyspan USA-19HS adaptors through Amazon; that should tell you something.
