Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kensington Noise Cancelling Headphones ( 33084 )Customer Review: Very fast Summary: 5 Stars
This item arrived at my house before I even expected it to -- very satisfied customer!
Customer Review: Decent headphones Summary: 4 Stars
My key requirement was to better hear sound on airplanes' audio systems at a low price. Most my life is Off the plane, so I listen to pass time, but without the drone of engine noise. As a side benefit, there is a mild reduction of appliance noise when two people in the same room have a TV/Computer on speaker, and the other is listening with the headhphones. The key is remembering to turn the switch off when finished or setting it down for an errand. At home, turning it on will introduce a slight static hiss, but it has not been annoying. I purchsed two of these several years ago: one for myself and for my spouse.
For the money, I'm happy.
Pros:
Adjustable for wide range of head sizes.
Inexpensive.
Quieting effect on background noises: remarkable on a plane, less so in a home environment.
Lightweight.
Mini stereo jack.
Standard AAA battery (included), or can use optional recharagable batteries.
Cons:
Off-On switch for AAA battery... be careful about stowage that you don't accidentally turn it on.
Not top-end audio quality, but very acceptable considering the price.
The elastic band which fits through a plastic sheath - the technology works, but the band broke on one of two units after several years of use. I didn't see the break occur -- it was just in that condition when I picked it up to use (yes, I could have accidentally broken it).
No parts thru website, to replace the broken band.
If I can't find a way to fix the set that broke (see Cons), or via Kensington some other way I'll still consider getting another.
Customer Review: Good, but not quite perfect Summary: 4 Stars
When my JVC-HANC-100's died a premature death (one headphone simply stopped playing) I poked around Amazon reviews and selected the Kensingtons. I liked the promise of a light, battery-efficient headset I could tuck into my briefcase for the very considerable travel I do.
First of all, the JVC has slighty better sound; mainly at the high end where there is a bit more crispness, though the Kensington's sound is well balanced with very decent bass. However, I prefer the Kensingtons because they do both a volume boost and noise reduction, meaning that one of my MP3 players and my laptop, which have relatively low output, are much more usable. Certainly, the noise reduction is as effective as on the JVC's. I tend to sit behind the engines towards the rear of the plane and I found the phones very pleasantly effective.
Other plusses are that the unit folds up more compactly and is easily tucked away. The headset is extremely comfy over the course of a four or five hour flight -- and the AAA non-alkaline with the set is still going strong after 10-12 hours. And though they do not have a retractable cord -- the problem I think with my JVC's, and sometimes hard to retract -- that's a feature I don't particularly care about.
Hey, for $35 bucks this is a good deal. We'll see how long they last.
Customer Review: Great Value Summary: 4 Stars
OK, if you're considering these Kensingtons, you probably are looking for a value - not the absolute best headphones you can get. And i can tell you, these headphones are a great value. I use these on airplanes to watch DVDs on my iBook, and they do a great job of cutting the majority of the background noise during flight. Does it sound like you are in a soundproof booth in a recording studio? NO....YOU ARE ON A FREAKING AIRPLANE! Riding in an aluminum tube at 400 miles per hour is not the best environment to appreciate the finer points of audio quality.
Can you get better quality at the three hundred dollar price point? Probably. But for the incredibly reasonable price of these Kensingtons, you are getting a set of headphones that will cut down drastically on background noise, allow you to hear the dialog, music and special effects of your movie clearly, and not break your budget. Plus, in the unfortunate event that you break/crush/lose or sit on these, you're not out a huge amount of cash.
Overall - comfortable, convenient folding design, good sound quality, and good noise cancelling (you can also use them with no audio just for the noise cancelling effect while sleeping.)
Customer Review: good headphones for a good price Summary: 4 Stars
I bought these headphones recentyly from Dell. I had a concession coupon as was basically looking for whatever I could find to fill it. I came across these and wondered what they were like. So I read a few reviews here and took a chance.
They turned out to be a very nice item. The noise canceling function works very well. I had the tv on while listening to some music, and right when I turned the headphones on (without music) the tv noise disappeared.
Overall the sound quality is great in my opinion, and the price cant be beat. Also, when the music is cranked, very little escapes into the surroundings (nosy people). I know this was a concern some people had with other headphones. My only "complaint" is the headphones are biiger than standard headphones. One other company, I forget the name, has a model that looks like standard headphones, but the sound quality is said to be quite bad. Maybe someday someone will get the balance of size/quality perfect.
Anyway, definitely worth the money.
