I am writing this review in response to one of the 1-star reviews that claims this product does not work with the iPhone 2.1 or 2.2 software updates. I purchased the product for my brother as a Christmas gift, and was a little worried that it would not work. My brother and I have been playing around with the battery all day today on our v2.2 iPhone 3Gs... and I can verify that it works PERFECTLY!
We have not had any problems working with the battery, and it's nice that you can charge your iPhone even with the battery connected. Great product with a great price from Amazon!

I got this battery extender for a trip to Europe where the iPhone would have to survive long plane rides and long days walking around with possibly no chance to recharge except in the hotel. The Kensington worked pretty well both from the perspective that it is small and easily goes in a pocket and can fully recharge the iPhone once if left alone for a few minutes. If you are like me and can't leave it alone then it can maintain the charge in the iPhone while you are using it but, it won't be able to put a charge into the iPhone faster that you are taking it out while using apps.Customer Review: Kensington Battery Extender

When I purchased my iPhone I heard about all the battery issues and thus I rushed to buy myself a battery extender. While it was not a mistake I would suggest you use the iPhone for a period of time to get used to it before you start purchasing a lot of accessories. This battery works great and actually recharges the iPhone battery once you connect the extension. It is easy to charge, however the question most of all is does one really need it at all. If you cannot get to an electrical plug for regular recharge of your iPhone than maybe this extender is for you.Customer Review: Great full charge for my iphone

This was a great battery back up for my iphone. I used my iphone for an entire day, email, maps, GPS, taking photos & showing photos, playing games ect. I could use my phone all day because it was like having 1 extra battery charge with me at all times. Mine doesn't really do more than one charge and then it's pretty much dead. I picked mine up on sale for $28.99 over the holidays. I adore this battery! It is small enough to slide into the pocket of my small purse to go with me everywhere. It easily fits on my iPhone 3G while the phone is inside its Crystal Jacket. I also like the way it charges up the iPhone instead of simply providing power so that you can use your iPhone while the battery is charging it, pop the battery off to recharge it, and use your now fully charged iPhone while the battery is being charged. You never have to wait. If my Kensington Mini Battery ever dies, I would definitely buy another.
