The lock works exactly as described, hence the 5 stars. Not a lot of competition for high quality notebook locks, so I feel like I was paying more than I wanted to due to lack of options. I selected the DS version because I wanted the flat keys, however, the keys are still a little large to keep on your regular keychain. The lock appears to accommodate various mounting slot depths, but this seems to add a little slack (filled in by an integrated soft rubber mount). I wonder if this slack might allow for additional stress on the security slot for thinner skinned notebooks. I use mine to secure 20" LCD panels to their desks. In spite of the minor issues mentioned, I'd purchase again.Customer Review: Great laptop lock for a great price!

I was a little anxious at first ordering the Kessington 64343 MicroSaver DS Notebook Computer Lock with Keys for my HP Pavillion dv7 computer. This was because of several review I'd read about how difficult it is to install the lock and how it might scratch my computer. When I ordered this lock I paid for the five-day shipping and it arrived in two days. The lock looks great. It looks and feels heavy-duty, and about as attractive as a computer lock can. It slipped easily into the computer's lock hole. The key turned easily and it locked without a problem. The rubber ring looks like it will prevent any scratching. I looked at other locks in stores and did some online research and everything pointed to the MicroSaver DS with keys. While nothing will stop a determined thief I believe this is the best security available. It's well thought out, easy to use, and simply looks tough. It slips into a laptop bag easily yet it's long enough that you'll always be able to find something to attach it to. I use it while travelling and even at home.
I look at it this way. Once you realize that there is a device like this available you have to buy it and use it. Otherwise, you have no one to blame but yourself if your laptop is stolen.

I purchased this lock for my new (Oct. 2008) MacBook with the understanding that it's the best lock available. I'm not disappointed. It has a rubber gasket to protect the computer from scratches, which was an issue with previous designs. The keys work well and reliably, and the cable is very thick. My only (mild) concern is that I have to be very careful about the angle I use to insert the male piece of the lock into the computer--it's very small and delicate, and it can scratch the computer if not inserted properly. However, if one inserts the lock correctly, there are no problems.Customer Review: Ultimate physical security for your laptop

Heavy braided cable and an Abloy-like disk lock; there's no way they're cutting, breaking or picking this thing anytime soon. If anything, it'll be your laptop or your anchor that will fail first. Whenever I have to leave my 2k+ laptop in a vehicle, or have it in a public place (I'm a police officer and we do public service Child Identification programs where I use my laptop) where someone may decide grab it and run, I secure it with this lock. Whatever you do, DO NOT lose the keys.
