Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Kensington 64338 Comfort Type USB Keyboard (PC/Mac)

Customer Review: Good Product, Great Price
Summary: 4 Stars

The unusual shape of the keyboard takes a little time to get used to. Once you've passed the initial adjustment, this product is excellent and at a great price. A nice, basic keyboard.

Customer Review: Nice comfortable keyboard
Summary: 4 Stars

My whole family loves the comfyness of this keyboard compared to our old one. I like the angle of the keys and it types just fine. Good item for a cheap price. Not too shabby :)

Customer Review: Good construction and feel, backslash annoying
Summary: 3 Stars

Good points:
Construction quality is very good for the price. It doesn't feel flimsy, it doesn't bend or anything, keys have a consistent feel.

Subject things I like:
- I like the feel of the keys. They have a longer keystroke and require a bit more pressure than most keyboards. I like a good solid feel like this. Of course for $20 these aren't mechanical, but I'm not sure my wife and baby would enjoy the sound of a mechanical anyway.
- The F & J keys have a faint ring outlining where your finger tips would go in addition to a slightly larger than usual dot at the lower edge. This helps me.

Things I don't like:
- The backslash / pipe key is in the wrong place.
- The N, H, Y and 6 keys are convex, which I don't understand. Given the layout, they need to be a different shape, but I don't know why the rounded tops are needed.

The layout isn't that different. It's mostly just the keys are angled diamonds instead of mostly square. If anyone can point me to a keyboard with a similar feel with a traditional layout, I'd be most appreciative.

Customer Review: It works on a Mac, but...
Summary: 3 Stars

Kensington has a long history with Macs and this works fine. But the layout is all PC. This is really a problem when I am used to having the Command keys next to the space bar. On this keyboard, the Alt keys are there and the Windows keys (which work like the Command keys on a Mac) are just outside of them on either side. I couldn't figure out a fix for that. Also, the Kensington Keyboard utility shows up in the Preferences panel under 10.2, but I could never get it to recognize that there was a Kensington Keyboard hooked up to the computer. I gave up and bought a Matias USB 2.0 keyboard with a dock on top. It's great and works like a real Mac keyboard.

Customer Review: Strange location for backslash/pipe key
Summary: 3 Stars

I like this keyboard a lot, and it didn't take any time at all to get used to the layout; and I switch around a lot of keyboards between work and home. But there is one key that is moved out of the normal layout, and that is the backslash "\" and vertical bar/pipe key "|" which as a Unix programmer I use every 15 minutes or so.

And so all day today, I kept hitting the "Enter" key when I was trying to hit the "|" key. Extremely frustrating. So if you don't ever, or seldom use those keys, this is a great comfortable keyboard.
