The Joby Gorillapod is an awesome little accessory for any photographer. If you are travelling, this is very handy as it can be bent into a little ball, about the size of a small pretzel, so it packs away very easily. It is surprisingly light yet very sturdy and holds my Canon S2IS very well. It adapts very well to surfaces that are not level. Because of its flexibility, the Gorillapod seems harder to break than my old mini-tripod. Please note the legs do NOT extend. Another nice use is to use this as a clamp. Because of its flexibility, you can wrap this around an object and it holds fairly well. If you have a DSLR I would not recommend this, as it may be too heavy...however, a light point-and- shoot should be fine. I did not expect much from this and was very pleasantly surprised by its versatility. This is my third mini-tripod and my last. I have finally found what I was looking for. This tripod holds its position very well. Again, keep in mind that a heavy DSLR may not work well with this tripod. It is very portable, and fits in my wife's purse easily. I hate to say it, but this tripod also looks cool. Everyone should have one.
As for MP3's and cell phone's, no problem. Suction cup is good. I don't know that I would use this very often, and I certainly would not use it to hold something up while driving, as it is just too light to make me comfortable, but that is not what I wanted it for. I would, however, use it as a desktop mount for my PDA, and I am certain that I could come up with a few more uses as I play around with it more. The price may seem a bit high, however, it's much cheaper than buying other models for a few dollars less and finding that they are useless. In this instance, you get what you pay for. You can use it as a monopod as well by bending the legs together. It's not very tall, but if there is a ledge, rail, etc., to lean it all, that's all you need. This makes the digital zoom portion of my S2IS much sharper.
