Customer Review: Rockin' little speaker system!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this little thing! For the price, and the size, it is excellent. The sound (again for the size) is top notch. It's not going to sound like a 300 watt stereo, but it sounds great for what it is!

The sound is not 'tinny'. It is full bodied, IMO. It will not fill a large room with sound but for an office, a bedroom, the kitchen, or another small to average sized room it is absolutely adequate.

I purchased this as a gift for my husband to use on his desk, or whatever, for his iPod and now I wish I had purchased two of them. I do have a Bose SoundDock and stereos that I can use with our iPods but for a small, compact, unit this is perfect.

It has a little draw-string bag for carrying. Only the unit and the headphone cord fits in the bag, unfortunately. I would have liked to have had someting padded, and large enough to put the AC adapter in with. That would be my ONLY complaint on this little jewel but for the price I don't think it deserves a complaint.

Customer Review: handy great sound, but not idiot proof
Summary: 5 Stars

this is the second JBL On Tour Portable Speaker System I purchased. the first one's speakers blew out.

Pro: I bought it again because it suits all my needs its portable, has great sound, has its own protective cover built in. Lightweight

Con: not idiot proof:
The only negitive is that you have to be careful (as with all speakers) when using it with different output volumes. For examable when I use it with my ipod the output volume is fairly low, therefore I need to turn up the volume on the jbl speaker. If my husband later hooks speaker (which is set on high from my ipod use) up to the radio stereo which has a much higher volume output (than the ipod),without turning down the volume output of the radio and the volume output for the speakers, this combination of events can blow out the speakers. (I am not a tech geek so if this is incorrect, sorry). I also had another friend who this happened to.

would buy again and recomend it

Customer Review: Stunning Performance for the Format
Summary: 5 Stars

I am an ex-musician and an electronics engineer. I have heard a lot of speakers that sound better than these - that go on a bookshelf. These little fellows deliver undistorted, well-imaged sound out of a package that folds small enough to (almost) fit in a pocket. And they look good too.

One major peeve, but not enough to dampen my love: the cables only connect to the system when it is unfolded. The only way to turn the speakers off (reliably - there is an auto shut-off) is to close the little cabinet. Ergo - you have to unplug everything to turn these guys off. That is a small price to pay for a gadget that, while only slightly larger than a programmable calculator, delivers true high fidelity sound.

To give a concrete example: at the volume level these speakers were designed to handle (they are not very loud) they sound better than any boombox or portable I've heard. And these poratables were 10-20 times the size of these speakers.

Customer Review: JBL quality, and a value at that.
Summary: 5 Stars

Like Kloss and Sony, JBL is a brand name that automatically commands a higher price than the competition (my JBL bookshelf system with 14" woofers is still going strong after 35 years). The design, build quality and, of course, sound are simply a notch above the rest. In the case of the JBL On Tour Portable speakers the value is there as well. Unlike some of the 20-30 dollar portable systems I've tried, these don't require you to feed them 4 fresh alkalines every 8 hours; they not only have adjustable volume but require no fumbling for a half-hidden dial; they're designed to stay in one place, no tipping or migrating on a desk or countertop The sound is full-frequencied, with natural presence and adequate volume for most applications. And if you run them off of AC rather than battery power, there's no harm in leaving them on when you're too busy to fold 'em (though I'd have preferred a simple on-off switch). On balance, the best complement to a black iPod.

Customer Review: Best Speakers ever for Size and Quality -- Price is Great
Summary: 5 Stars

Owning a music business I bought this for my other half for when he travels throughout the world. I used other peoples reviews for my decision. Got it -- loved the size. Perfect for the carry-on traveler. Then I had to review some mixes but the studio speakers went out. Used the JBL on Tour Portable Speakers with a cd player attached. The sound was fantastic. I could catch all the tracks to make my notes for the final recording. When the studio speakers were fixed went back and listened again to see if I missed anything. It was a perfect mix.

I liked the quality and size so much I just bought 3 more for my kids away at college. They use it for their Ipods, Cd players and tv's for better sound.

We use a travel bag (free from an airline) that stores the speakers, cable and charger. It would be nice if JBL supplied a bag that would accomodate all three.

The price is absolutely amazing for the quality you receive.
