Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of JBuds J2 Premium Hi-Fi Noise-Isolating Earbuds (Black/Chrome Silver)Customer Review: The absolute best cost-benefit ratio for earbuds Summary: 5 Stars
Simply put: (1) these are the best small earbuds I've owned in my life, in terms of cost-benefit ratio; (2) jlab is one of the most amazing companies I've experienced, especially in terms of costumer service. I'll explain myself:
(1) Even though I'm not an audio expert or professional, I am an avid audio consumer. I listen to a lot of music, of many different genres, both in front of my computer and on the go. I also enjoy testing the capabilities of my earbuds watching movies. The J2s have simply given me the best audio immersion experience I've had so far. Of course, I've tried jaw-dropping headphones at professional stores that may sound even better than these little jewels, but you will need to pay 5 or more times the cost of these buds to get something remarkably better. The cost-benefit ratio of this item is unbeatable.
Before owning a pair of J2s, I had two (!) pairs of Sennheiser CX300-B Earbuds (Black)s. I'd personally classify those Sennheisers as the direct competition of the J2s, taking into account the price range and the technical performance of both. I found that the Sennheisers delivered a crisp high-range and an overall high quality sound, but these J2s out-performed them in the bass range, were comparable in the mid-range, and are *very decent* in the highs anyway --overall, they deliver a very wide range of frequencies with outstanding clarity. And if you are really missing that bit of highs, you can easily attempt to compensate by using your device's equalizer -- and note that you can't really pull the same trick if your earbuds don't deliver powerful bass. This J2s can, and oh how they can. You'll really feel that bass pumping in. If you like this, and you are looking for a pair of extremely portable earbuds that help you feel connected to your music even if you are out inside a noisy bus, I would emphatically recommend the J2s. Plus, the J2s' construction is very sturdy. The cable is slightly thicker than the Sennheiser's (added benefit: they hardly, if ever, get entangled), the jack is solid, the cord length is ideal (I'm 5'10"), and the fit in my ears is just perfect. What else could I ask for? I love these little things. I use them every single day of my life.
**NOTE**: JBuds insists on this a lot, but I'll repeat: "burning in" the earbuds is crucial for attaining optimum performance. They have audio samples on their site that you can leave on repeat for 24 or more hours. You'll notice the difference immediately.
(2) About two and half months of using these buds very aggresively, I started listening to a light distortion in my J2s. I had seen how jlab replied lengthily to negative comments on amazon.com, so I decided to send them an email describing the issue in detail. They replied in less than 24 business hours, and said that the problem wast most probably a short in the wiring, and that the buds were covered under a one year warranty. And I received a brand new pair as a replacement!!! This is really outstanding costumer service. It was this experience that led me to write this review. A full five stars for these buds. I hope it helps to pull back that 3.5 average a bit higher up.
Final note: I liked the minimal packaging of these j2s. It's great that they're thinking more about the content, and less about the "shell" of this item, for the sake of the environment.
Customer Review: outstanding at 30,000+ feet, but not very good for running... Summary: 5 Stars
I was very impressed with the JBuds J2 earbuds when I first tried them at home. I'm not an audiophile but I was certainly able to hear how much better these were over the Apple earbuds or even some Sony's that I've used for years.
The real test came on some recent flights from Detroit to Budapest. Again I noticed a significant difference between the JBuds and my previous earbuds. The JBuds noise isolation does not entirely drown out the drone of the jet engines but comes pretty close. For years I've had to crank up the volume to simply hear my music/shows. The Jbuds allowed me to not only hear but enjoy the sounds from my iPhone.
I had considered buying some over the ear headphones but I did not want the added bulk in my carry on luggage. While I suspect that headphones may do a better job of totally blocking airplane noise I am happy with the slight trade off of total noise isolation for less bulkiness.
I highly recommend trying these J2s. They're relatively inexpensive and work great.
UPDATE December 27
I only recently tried running on the treadmill with the J2s. The problem is that movement of the cords causes the earbuds to move ever so slightly in your ears. This in turn makes some noise as the earbud move in your ear. Instead of allowing the cord to dangle I tried holding it so that the earbuds were not disturbed. This solved the problem but is not a practical solution. I saw that JLab has posted a reply to someone who was not satisfied with the J2 for running. It would be interesting to see what type of accessory JLabs releases. Instead of trying to be all things to all people JLabs and Amazon ought to simply note that these earbuds 'are not designed specifically as active sports headphones.' The J2s are outstanding for most other purposes...in my case long flights. When I run I'll stick to my trusty Sony's that I've used for over 3 years... I still rate the J2s 5 stars for most non-sport uses.
Customer Review: a very good choice! Summary: 5 Stars
I've only ever had the earbuds that come with the iPod and they're okay. They have pretty much very little to no bass, and the comfort of the iPod earbuds are pretty bad since my ears are a bit smaller than most people.
The J2buds come with 3 different sets of rubber ear pieces to put on the earbud itself for people with smaller or bigger ears. I'm using the smallest one right now. I really had to stick these things in my ears to get them to stay.
PROS :
' Good Bass.
' Durable.
' Stylish.
' Noise-Canceling (From what I heard, it's not as good as others, but it still does the job)
' unbeatable price.
' Many Many colors to choose from.
CONS :
* My ears hurt after a couple hours of listening.
* Cord might be a little bit shorter than some other brands.
* Flicking the cord when listening produces a "thump" now this will probably happen on most earbuds but I'm just putting it out there.
That's all the cons guys, the Pros totally outweigh the Cons!
I highly recommend buying a pair of these, the price is just unbeatable!
!! UPDATE 8/6/10 !!
Okay so I've had these for a while now and I was actually thinking of buying another pair since the price has gone down to only $15!!
Also, fitting the Jbuds into my ear is no longer a problem. When I first got these I had some trouble but now they fit comfortably. The only trouble now is that my ear start to hurt after wearing these for a couple hours. But still, overall, great earbuds! If you have the stock earbuds that came with your mp3 player or ipod, I extremely recommend these.
Customer Review: Great headphones! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had these headphones for over a year. I initially purchased two sets(one for me, one as a gift) of these after reading good reviews and have been extremely pleased. I finally lost a pair and purchased another set of J2s after reading that the J3s lack bass. The J2s are cheaper and I was pleased enough with them that I decided to go with the same ones.
I am able to listen to these at just about any volume and because they fit so snugly in my ears, no one around me can hear it. If only everyone used these headphones in public areas!
As the headphones fit snugly (they come with three sets of jelly inserts; small/medium/large), they are extremely comfortable to wear, even for long periods of time. Over time, the jelly inserts soften and become even more comfortable (they're fairly stiff when you get them).
As for the sound quality, I'm no audiofile, but they sound great to me. I think that they do sound better over time as you've used them more. I'm not sure if this is because they are "burnt in" or because they because more comfortable as the jelly inserts soften during use. For the price, I'd definitely recommend these headphones. I'm sure there's probably an $80 set of headphones that are better, but why pay that much when these sound great, are comfortable, and people around you can't hear your music?
The only negative thing about these headphones is that if you are pulling them out from a bag or something and they get caught on something else, the jelly insert can slide off. I've almost lost one of the inserts a couple of times, but luckily realized in time to find it.
Customer Review: jBuds are Ear Buddies Summary: 5 Stars
These were my fourth pair of earbuds and the most impressive I've owned. The wiring and connections are solid and reinforced. I've replaced earbuds when the wiring breaks or the sound volume becomes unequal.
I'm hard on earbuds. My workday starts late in the morning and lasts until late in the evening. I need to still be asleep when the gardeners come with their leaf blowers and weed whackers. Earbuds serve a dual purpose: they keep sound out and give me pleasant sounds to sleep by. Being a bit of an insomniac, my MP3 player helps me to fall asleep each night as well. This is tough on earphones.
I'm impressed with the construction of these buds. Stress points are well reinforced and unlikely to fail. But ruggedness isn't the primary reason for buying phones ... sound quality is.
These are second to none when it comes to sound quality. Bass is solid with no distortion. The midrange and highs are crisp and clear. I've listened to everything from hip-hop to classical and they have provided a superior listening experience.
The worst feature of these phones is that they have a straight plug into the media player instead of an angled plug. This makes it easier to accidently unplug the phones. At worst, a minor drawback. Also, the barrel of the buds is a bid longer than others. At first I thought this would be a problem with lying on a pillow, but it hasn't disturbed me at all.
These utterly dominate all the other earbuds I've owned, both in terms of construction quality and in terms of sound. Buy a pair with confidence - you can't go wrong.
