Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds (Black)Customer Review: Great headphones, amazing price Summary: 5 Stars
Let me just say this right up front: these are by far the most comfortable "in-ear" headphones that I've ever used. I'm pretty picky when it comes to headphones, but these are actually everything I was looking for (and come at a price that's more than reasonable). I got the first black iPod a couple of years ago right when it came out, and one of the first things I noticed about it was that Apple - which is usually spot-on when it comes to design and aesthetics - made the terrible decision to stick with their iconic white headphones even on the black iPod. On top of the color mismatch looking bad, the headphones themselves kept slipping out of my ears. This was true even if I was just sitting on the subway, and of course was even worse if I was jogging or being active. Between now and then I've tried at least half a dozen different earbuds in an effort to improve the form (namely, black to match my iPod), and function (ones that would comfortably stay in my ears). I've tried some with active noise canceling and others with passive noise reduction, and in the process I've spent as much as $80 for a pair.
After all that, this tiresome quest is finally over. The JBuds are comfortable enough to fall asleep with, but secure enough to stay snugly in place even during vigorous exercise. The sound quality is excellent - crisp treble, clear mids, and surprisingly rich bass, all with outstanding clarity and separation. I'm actually hearing instrumentation in layers of production that I've never heard before (in music that I've been listening to for years no less!). Oh, and they're black, so they look much better with my black iPod. I'd highly recommend these if you're thinking of getting some better headphones for yourself or for someone else as a gift. There's simply not a better pair on the market in anywhere close to this price range.
The bottom line: outstanding headphones, unbelievable price.
Customer Review: Great Buy! Summary: 5 Stars
These buds are the best I've owned for the iPod yet and I've been through no less than 10 others in this price range. I won't spend more money on a pair because they are so easily damaged. I like the snug fit and the earbuds are deceptively sturdy. They are thin and weightless in the ear with a strong metal-like construction rather than the easily snapable plastic that most buds offer. The gold-plated plug fits tight in the iPod jack and because it is L-shaped it rarely pulls out like those straight jacks always do when the wire gets a tug. And, you will like the length of the wires and the ratio of the split wire to the whole length. I think they got that just right. There's room to move while wearing them but not so much as to give the wire too many opportunities to catch onto things and get ripped from your ears. And, in the case they do come tearing out of your ear sockets unexpectedly, just relax-its painless. That's because there is no hard plastic in your ear canal to rub across the skin as they go in or out. Yet, all the while, they keep out excess noise from the environment and, even at the lowest volumes, the music is crisp and clear. Its a very nice design. A great buy!
UPDATE: After only 2 months the L bud started to crackle and today stopped working altogether. Too bad. The problem is that the wire connection is too fragile inside the bud so that the twisting motion they get when connected to any iPod in use actually snaps the wire in two. Manufacturer needs to fix this flaw or they will be replacing every purchase of these things under their 1 year warranty program. I'm sending mine back under warranty so I'll let you all know if they honor it without hassle. Too bad because these buds were perfectly designed on the outside. Now they need to match the internal design to the same quality standards.
Customer Review: Excellent pair of buds. Summary: 5 Stars
I'll keep it short and sweet. I've had my buds for a month now, and i absolutely love them. Im not an audiophile by any means, but they are far, far superior to the ipod ear buds. I never even knew that you could FEEL bass through ear buds until i got my jbuds, they are truly amazing for the price.
They're also way more comfortable than the ipod earbuds. I can easily have them in my ears for hours and not be bothered. The quality of the wire and the connection is comparable to that of the ipod earbuds. Their not thicker, and they dont look much stronger, but its good enough, considering the price.
I've gotta give props to Jlabs. They've built a really good product, and their customer service is top-notch. Would i buy again? Definitely. Im already considering getting the J2's, and i'd be the first to upgrade when they come out with a new product.
UPDATE:
Just today, I regret to say that my JBuds stopped working properly. The left earbud just stopped working completely. I was really frustrated, because i took really good care of them, and even kept them in a little carrying case. However, I have heard really good things about JLabs customer support, so i have decided to try to get them replaced, since its been well under a year. I will keep you updated on how that process works out...
Stay tuned.
Update 2:
It took only 3 days for my replacement to arrive. Jlabs was very prompt with their emails, and very professional and cooperative. If you're still wondering whether or not to purchase jbuds, this should help. Even if your earbuds break, there's absolutely no risk! Jlabs will replace them. I didnt even have to send my old pair back. with such superior customer service, you have nothing to lose.
Thank you jlabs.
Customer Review: Great Product- Sticks to its Words Summary: 5 Stars
Like the name says, these are a pair of noise-reducing (I repeat, REDUCING- not cancelling) ear buds. They are lightweight, but do not feel flimsy. Their cord does not have any sort of plastic adjuster that you can move up and down to bring the two cords together or anything (for taking up slack/adjusting the cords to individual head sizes) but you can easily pull them apart until you have the desired length/fit for them.
A big plus is the fact that they come with different size silicone ear pieces as stated. They come equipped already with the Medium size ear piece.
Because the Medium size fits my ear just fine and does a great job of reducing incoming noise (it acts like an effective ear plug) I have not had to try and remove the Mediums for a different size. Because of this, I can't comment on how easy/difficult it may or may not be.
As for sound quality, I honestly preferred these to any other ear buds I have had (I've gone through one pair of ipod ear buds, and some other random cheap-o pair) I find that because they fit snugly in my ear, I can actually get a good sense of bass in my music- which is very uncommon for ear buds considering their small size. Even most headphones can't reproduce a real feeling of bass because, again, they're not that large (like, say, car stereo speakers).
Overall, for the price I can't think of a better item. I listen to my ipod all day at work, and these help keep outside office noises (scanners, copiers, fax machine, phones, etc.) from interfering with the sound of my music. Of course it can also make it a little more difficult for people to pull me away from my "work" ;)
I love em. Good luck.
Customer Review: Fulfill their purpose incredibly well Summary: 5 Stars
I see a lot of reviewers complaining that the buds are not "noise-cancelling", but you can't expect that from buds with no electronic noise-cancellation. I like to walk down a particularly noisy street to get to class, and the difference between these and the standard iPod buds is incredible. I can comfortably walk to classes with the volume anywhere between 1/4 and 1/2 of full strength (as opposed to around 3/4 with other buds) and still hear just fine, which is definitely better for my hearing. I still want to hear busses, horns, etc for safety, so this does exactly what I need - muffles/blocks conversations and the like while still allowing me to hear necessary things.
Also, the different size fittings are a great feature. It takes a bit of experimentation to find the right size and fit, but once you do, the outside noise suppression and the sound quality are undeniably impressive.
As for that sound quality... While I don't have much to which to compare these and I'm no "audiophile", I couldn't be happier with the money I spent. I listen to a very wide variety of music (acoustic singer-songwriters, rock, rap, country, etc) and the sound is great for all of them. Good, crisp bass response in the rap and in bass drums, both acoustic and electric guitars sound clean, drums are smooth, and I'm generally hearing parts of songs I have not previously heard (echoing, multiple guitars/pitches, etc).
Bottom line? These are great buds. While I'm guessing there are better-sounding ones out there, a college student on a budget like me or anyone not looking to spend big bucks but get highly impressive sound should give these a shot.
