Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of JBL On Stage II Speaker and Docking Station for iPod (Black)Customer Review: Great tiny speaker system Summary: 5 Stars
The reason I'm giving this 5 stars is because I've never heard better sound out of anything its size. Actually, I haven't heard better sound out of several things much bigger. The only ipod system I like better than this one is the HK Go Play, which I also own. (But the HK Go Play is in a class all by itself.) I originally bought this BEFORE I had an ipod, to play music from my motorola L7 which has itunes in it. Now I keep this little JBL hooked up to my computer so we can watch movies with better sound, or for my itunes library while I'm working. I also use it as a substitute for a portable tape player when I have to lead a guided meditation. For that I plug an actual old walkman into the back. I love that I can stuff it in my purse or in a tiny bag that goes over my shoulder, and then if I have to walk a distance from a parking lot to a building, I'm not carrying a huge bulky thing just to play a tape.
I even take it to friends' houses if I want to play a new song for them on my ipod. For traveling it even fits in my sleek little laptop case. The biggest drawback is no batteries (I also have the on-stage micro which does, but sound quality is nearly worthless) and the clunky, huge, heavy power supply. But I forgive it. It's so cute and tidy looking, it makes such crisp, clear sound for its tiny size and it's so versatile and endlessly useful, it's worth enjoying, keeping and even praising.
Description of JBL On Stage II Speaker and Docking Station for iPod (Black)Set your music free as only JBL can do it with the black On Stage II iPod speaker system. The compact yet powerful high-performance system employs a quartet of Odyssey neodymium full-range drivers to fill your room with clear, accurate sound and all the volume you (and your friends and neighbors) can handle. It's the perfect accessory for bedrooms, smallish apartments, basements, and any other space where a full-size speaker system is pure overkill. The On Stage II incorporates Apple's universal iPod dock adapter, which works with most docking versions of the iPod, including the iPod video 5G and 5.5G and the iPod nano 1G and 2G. Simply slide your iPod into the dock and you're set--no additional cords to connect or adapters to fuss with. As an added convenience, the On Stage II also offers an auxiliary input for connecting a variety of other portable audio devices, including the iPod shuffle, personal MP3 and CD players, desktop and laptop computers (all platforms), and satellite radio receivers. As long as your portable audio device has a 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack connection, you can play the audio through your On Stage II speaker. As a bonus, the On Stage II comes with a wireless remote control, giving you the freedom to enjoy your music from across the room or in another room--up to 50 feet away (including through walls). The system itself, meanwhile, includes easy-to-use touch controls for the volume and mute, and even remembers your last volume setting after it shuts down. The system, which offers a frequency response of 80 Hz to 20 kHz, measures 7 inches in diameter and 2 inches tall and weighs 1 pound. It's also backed by a one-year warranty.
