Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Iomega Portable Hard Drive, FireWire 400/USB 2.0, 160GB - 33749

Customer Review: Superb!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this product for $99 in order to back up my G4 PowerBook. I formatted it so that 160GB became 149MB but I could successfully copy all my stuff onto this external HD. (Just for your information, I used "Carbon Copy Cloner", which is downloadable for free. It did an excellent job.) It took me some 1.5 hours to backup/copy 31GB. I don't know if this is fast or slow, but I am satisfied with the fact that I can now use this external HD as a start-up disk (with firewire). For review of other features, I will refer the reader to the rest of this review section. Incidentally, the sales price changed right after I purchased this item. Remember that I bought it for $99 plus Shipping $6.35. The seller was J&R.

Customer Review: Iomega Portable Hard Drive
Summary: 5 Stars

This little drive is great. It works fast from the firewire powered bus, and fits in my pocket. There are very few wires to carry around since it is powered by the firewire, or USB cable alone. Its a good disk size (160 GB) for a portable disk. I wouldn't want to keep too much on a drive that I'm carrying around with me. But it is large enough to use for video editing on single projects at a time. I would recommend having a larger stay at home drive, preferably with dual firewire ports in order to chain the drives, to transfer finished projects to when ready to start a new one.

Customer Review: Great Backup drive
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this drive to backup data from my Macbook. I opted to use the firewire interface so I could format the drive as a bootable Mac Drive. Unpacked the drive, set the dip-switch to USB/FW and plugged it into my Mac. The drive comes formatted for FAT32, so I reformatted it, installed OSX 10.4, and migrated all of my apps and data without any problem. I tried using the Retrospect backkup software supplied by Iomega but found it to be slow and cumbersome; even when doing an incremental backup. I have been using ibackup and have had no problems backing up my data in a few minutes.

Customer Review: Exactly as advertised
Summary: 5 Stars

It will take me longer to write this brief review than it did to connect the drive to a USB port on the BookEndz dock attached to my MacBook and begin backing up the hard drive with SuperDuper. To somebody whose first computer was an IBM Convertible in the 1980s, the simplicity of today's technology never ceases to be amazing. The drive has performed flawlessly for more than a month, running 18-plus hours daily, seven days a week. The only improvement would be the addition some sort of protective slip case so I could carry the drive on client visits instead of lugging the laptop.

Customer Review: Great Little Hard Drive
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this hard drive a half a year ago because i wanted to backup my dying laptop and its still working great. I can take it almost anywhere and its a breeze to operate, always connects to both my computers. The Iomega has more than enough storage for me and the price is unbeatable. The case logic case goes great with it too. The only downside was i was led to believe it would come with a 5 volt power chord, but instead it has a usb one. It's no big deal though because the usb 2.0 gives it enough juice
Thanks Iomega
