Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of IOGEAR USB 2.1 Bluetooth Micro Adapter (GBU421)

Customer Review: works well on Windows 7 64 bits
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been using one of those cheap (~ $1) Bluetooth USB adapters to watch movies from my computer using bluetooth headphone. The problem was that after 30 min or so, the sound started lagging behind the video by several seconds, and whenever this happened, I had to reconnect the headphone. This solved the problem but after a while, the problem recurred. I wasn't sure if it was the problem of the bluetooth adaptor or the bluetooth headset, but I figured I'd try the less expensive switch first... So I got this adaptor which is far more expensive than the $1 adapter I have been using, but it is worth every penny. The lagging problem disappeared right away, and now I am getting a very nice real-time streaming of stereo sounds to my bluetooth headset.

FYI, my desktop has Win 7 64 bits... It didn't work with the driver included in the CD, but when I used the latest driver on Iogear's website, it worked fine.

Customer Review: A great little BT adapter...
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a Blackberry 8830 and bought a set of BT headphones and a 4GB MicroSD for it to be my MP3 player. So I thought "why should I keep another set of headphones for the laptop?" I bought the IOGear and it installed on my laptop running XP Pro with ease. I turned off most of the functions as well as the discovery mode once I got everything paired and have been nothing but pleased with it. I can wander around my office and it works for pretty much as long as I have line of site or just thin cubicles walls in the way. Once real walls or metal filing cabinets come into play, I start to lose the signal, but the headset only advertises 6 feet, so I'm very happy with the adapter extending the range to well over 15 feet.

I can't speak for Vista as I'm a late adopter (have Vista and the latest beta on laptops at home, but not my production machine), but it really was easy to install on XP Pro SP3.

Customer Review: Flawless installation on XP SP3
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this because I couldn't get my work tablet PC's built-in Bluetooth to send music via my headset's A2DP channel. I tried to find new drivers, but this was much easier and very affordable. The upside being I could bring this home with me and connect to my home PC, which doesn't (for whatever reason) have built-in Bluetooth.

It installed flawlessly on two laptops running XP SP3, and I was listening to music within 5 minutes. I'll try it with my BT keyboard and mouse next.

It's a great size, fits snugly (yet easy enough to remove), so you can either leave it in when traveling or take it out. Also, the light is bright enough to see that it is transmitting, but dim enough that it doesn't distract you (none of my USB ports are in the back of my computer, so that was an issue for me).

So far so good - a great little product at a very reasonable price.

Customer Review: Works very well and the Bluetooth Software is excellent!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a Dell work machine (Lattitude 6400) and a Toshiba T135 home laptop, both have built in Bluetooth and both were impossible to set up with anything other than a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard. The stacks didn't really support Audio devices, let alone a headset that had Audio and Telephone support. The solution, buy one of these babies. The adapter works to up to 30 ft and the software worked perfectly. It does take up a USB port but that's not an issue on my work machine. For the Toshiba home machine it can be, and so I ended up (eventually) finding a Bluetooth Stack and Drivers that would work and support the Motorolla headphones.
All in all, the software with the the IOGEAR adapter was worth the price of admission, the adapter itself has a range of 20-30 ft as advertised and that's being next to a WiFi repeater for a conference room.
Great product!

Customer Review: what a deal for something that works flawlessly!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this for my new desktop since it didn't come with Bluetooth. I'm using Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard 6000 and was worried that for whatever reason it might not connect up with this bluetooth adapter-- the keyboard can be temperamental. But my windows 7 loaded the correct drivers immediately and within half an hour, I was all set up with the keyboard. It got only 4 stars for ease of use because I initially had a problem entering the code-- although I entered it, the code doesn't actually show up. I was about to send it back when I discovered that it was actually receiving the code and all I had to do was press enter for the keyboard to be linked-- a bit quirky, but since then, I've had no problems connecting. For the price and size, can't be beat!
