Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of IOGEAR USB 2.1 Bluetooth Micro Adapter (GBU421)Customer Review: Small, cheap, and it works Summary: 5 Stars
I am a Mac user, but I also have a Dell desktop at work running XP. When I put my new Magic Trackpad on my Mac, I decided I would re-purpose my Magic Mouse to the Dell, because its trackball was pretty much shot. When the iogear unit arrived, I managed to break the mini CD sitting inside the packaging. Fortunately, the Windows installer program found the necessary drivers. Installation was pretty simple, but the Bluetooth stack on Mac is so efficient, it kept grabbing the device I was trying to pair with my PC. So, I shut down the Mac, and once I did, the install went fairly well. Though that little gotcha, where you have to enable HID services on the device, was somewhat weird. Haven't also figured out how to get more of the MM's capabilities enabled, but will keep looking. Anyway, I also then added an Apple wireless keyboard, and this device is servicing them both well. Haven't rebooted the machine to see how well it holds on to the devices, but so far, easily worth the money.
Customer Review: Works with ReSound hearing aids, Win7 install note Summary: 5 Stars
I recently started wearing hearing aids, ReSound, which feature Bluetooth connection with their PhoneClip accessory. It works great, no issues with playing music from my PC.
Installation note: From IOGear Support Web site FAQ., Doc #: 328, Title: GBU421: Windows 7 installation
Details: With Windows 7 you do not want to use the drivers from the included CD. Make sure all previous drivers have been uninstalled, the GBU421 is unplugged from the computer and the computer has been restarted. Once the computer is back to the desktop you can download the drivers, unzip the downloaded file and then start the driver installation from the unzipped folder. The driver will try to locate the GBU421 and when the driver can not find the GBU421 a message will pop up the screen indicating no Bluetooth device was found. When this message comes up on the screen you can plug the GBU421 into the computer and the driver installation should complete. [...]
Customer Review: Excellent micro sized bluetooth adapter Summary: 5 Stars
I got this adapter to use with my new Acer Aspire ONE netbook (one of its few shortcoming being the lack of built-in bluetooth). WOW, is this device tiny! It fits very snugly into a free usb port -- it won't fall or slip out easily, and you can't even see any of the metal from the usb plug -- its just a tiny blue wart on the side of your machine. You'll hardly know its there! The seems to be little chance you could snag anything on it or break it off like with a larger dongle. The blue LED is easily visible but not excessively bright like on some dongles and devices. It also shuts off when not in use. Seems to be very power efficient, you can just leave it inserted all the time. Range seems fine, comparable to larger bluetooth dongles. Includes excellent Widcomm bluetooth stack software (using with XP) and supports A2DP for my bluetooth headphones. I highly recommend this product for anyone who wants to add unobtrusive bluetooth support to a notebook or netbook.
Customer Review: Works on Windows 7 64bit Summary: 5 Stars
After a string of failed attempts with other Bluetooth Adapters, I can confirm that IOGears does work with Windows 7 64bit. Actually I purchased two and have them working on two difference PCs both with Win7 64bit.
Things to watch;
- Ensure that you install the drivers provided on the CD before plugging in the adapter. The software will prompt when to do this.
- I'd suggest a reboot after this, but didn't seem to be necessary for me.
- If you have issues consider downloading the latest drivers from IOGears website, I used these [...]
- Under Administrative Tools and Services ensure that Bluetooth Service and Bluetooth Support Service are set to 'Automatic'... I had issues with one PC having these disabled, I suspect that while uninstalling a previous driver this was set to disabled.
I'm really happy with the devices and can also confirm they work with Nokia's Ovi Suite and PC Suite.
Customer Review: Perfect Bluetooth Adapter For Windows 7 Summary: 5 Stars
Ordered one of these last week for my Windows Media Center PC (a Dell Studio Hybrid 140G) so I could connect multiple wireless devices (a Dell Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and a Logitech DiNovo Mini keyboard) to the PC at the same time, and could not be happier with the result. So pleased that I just ordered two more of these adapters for use on any computers I'll purchase in the future, just in case IOGear stops making 'em.
I didn't use the CD that comes with the adapter, and I didn't have to install any drivers from the Windows CD or the internet -- I just plugged it into the USB port and let Windows 7 take care of the rest. Setting up all three devices was quick and painless, and everything works like a charm! If I'da known it was so easy to get things up and running with Bluetooth I woulda migrated *all* of my input devices to it a *long* time ago... so now I'm off to find a Bluetooth WMC controller!
