Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of IOGEAR USB 2.1 Bluetooth Micro Adapter (GBU421)

Customer Review: So tiny I could lose it
Summary: 5 Stars

But it works perfectly. I used this on Ubuntu which comes with software by default. I connected various phones, a headset, and a keyboard. And just to make sure it was possible, I also plugged this into my Windows7 system and it worked fine there as well. Even thought the IOGear device comes with a mini disc with software, Windows 7 looks for downloadable software. Of course you have to be connected to the internet for that.

The headset I connected is several years old (WEP200) and I can walk away from my computer a good 20 feet with no loss of audio signal. I also like the slight blue led light when the IOGear is plugged in. Let's me know it's connected.

I think I am now a huge fan of Bluetooth. I want to find MORE devices to connect. Just make sure your system is not Visible anymore once you have paired your devices.
And the IOGear is SO small you really could misplace it if you don't keep it plugged in. But once you get addicted to using Bluetooth devices I don't think you will wish to remove it from the USB port!

Customer Review: Great for a PAN
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought one of these suckers about a week ago to replace a larger Zoom adapter in (just like everyone else here) an Acer Aspire One (WinXP x86). After using the Zoom adapter for several months now, I was a little disappointed to find I couldn't use the familiar Toshiba Bluetooth stack with this thing. However, all disappointment disappeared when I saw all the Bluetooth services this thing offered. I'm not sure if it was the stack or the adapter but you can do a lot more with this.

Now I've got the micro adapter paired with the Zoom adapter on my desktop which is hosting a PAN networking service with a shared internet connection (looking for ways of getting wireless internet without using Wifi). I'm using this setup to type this review right now! The micro adapter is only a Bluetooth Class 2 device so its range is limited to around 30 feet, but that's plenty considering I live in a small apartment and didn't need the extra range of my Zoom adapters. I've just ordered another one of these for another laptop!

Customer Review: Perfect Bluetooth Solution. 5-Stars All The Way.

I've had IoGear stuff in the past and there was always some sort of issue that prevented proper operation, driving me mad in the process. Well I'm happy to report, this is not the case with the GBU421.

The hardest part was getting it removed from the Fort Knox blister pack (a razor blade took care of that issue). Just plug it in and Windows installs the drivers. I should also note that I tried it on both Windows Vista 32bit, Windows Vista 32Bit, Windows Vista 64bit and Windows 7 64bit and all worked perfectly. I did have an issue with AD2P (wireless headphones) using the standard Windows driver, but this was fixed using the drivers provided from the IoGear website. Easy, peasy.

I tried Bluetooh printing, file transfer between my cell phone and AD2P audio with a pair of Sennheiser MM-100's. I didn't do any official range tests, but I maintain signal throughout my 1800 sq ft house using the BT headphones.I wish ALL electronics worked this easily.

Definitely Recommended.

Customer Review: It just works with Windows 7 64-bit SP1 default driver
Summary: 5 Stars

The Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 default driver works beautifully on my new ACER i7 quad laptop, and the driver on the IOGEAR web site did not. After reading several earlier reviews, I downloaded the latest Windows 7 driver from the IOGEAR website. When the installer got far enough to check for Bluetooth hardware, I plugged in my new GBU421. Windows immediately detected the GBU421 and installed the default drivers while Windows Installer was busy with the IOGEAR drivers. I was able to pair immediately with my Logitech BT mouse.

Unfortunately, the GBU421 STOPPED WORKING as soon as the IOGEAR driver install completed! Device Manager told me that Windows had stopped the device because there was a problem. I used the Update Driver button on the Driver tab of the Properties dialog box to get it working again.

The GBU421 pairs easily and works well with my Sanyo mobile phone and older HP laptop as well as the Logitech mouse. Its range is better than the built-in BT radio in the HP.

Customer Review: Work Great
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this micro adapter for my laptop to use with my Sony DR-BT22 stereo headphone to listen to music with WMP11, and for my W350 cell phone to transfer MP3 files. It worked right out of the box with my laptop running Vista 32.

The software is so easy to use. Just right click the icon and select one of the service/device you want to use. I can connect both my phone and the headphone at the same time to my laptop. I can even transfer files and listen to music at the same time; but the music will cut off and come back while transferring files. When it is done copying the files, everything comes back normal. Transferring files is quite fast. I get around 40kps.

The adapter works so good with my laptop, I also bought another one to use with my desktop. I now have 2 computers both using wireless internet, 1 phone, and a stereo headphone running all together at the same room without any interference at all.

This is a great product!
