Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Nintendo Wii Component Cable AV Cable for HDTV/EDTV High Definition 480p

Customer Review: Unfortunately it was worse than OEM cables
Summary: 2 Stars

I was so excited to receive these cables, they seemed like the best deal for the price. Ratings were excellent which causes me to wonder if I received a defective set (although how complicated are these things really? they either work or they don't). Sadly the video quality was worse than the cables that come with the Wii. Most notably, the color is drab and faded, everything else seems to be equal with the OEM cables. And while I didn't have terribly high expectations, it seems reasonable to expect that they would provide at least equally good picture quality to the standard cables that came with the Wii. I would definitely look at some other cables, perhaps one from a known brand.

Customer Review: Much better than standard cable
Summary: 4 Stars

Most other reviewers got it right - this cable will make your Wii look sharper on an HD TV. For the price (I paid 3.11 from Eforcity) it can't be beat. The only gripe I have is that the cables don't split until the last 6 inches. Our setup dictates that the video cables go direct to the TV and the audio cables go to a stereo 4 feet away. This required me to use RCA couplers and extend the audio cable. No big deal as I had the needed junk handy, but if the individual cables could have been split at the top I would have like it better and given it 5 stars.

If you get one of these - check out the main Wii menu before swapping cables. You will barley be able to read the word Weather on the weather channel icon. After installing the new cable it will become clear - illustrating the enhanced display from the cable.

Customer Review: Wii Component Cable is Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

After installing the component cable and enabling the Wii's Extended Definition 480p setting, games like Zelda Twilight Princess and Need For Speed Carbon looked MUCH better on our 1080p HDTV.

Customer Review: good cable, clean signal, no interference
Summary: 5 Stars

Can't be beat for the money. Video and Audio quality are fine and I can't detect any interference (which is what you watch for with "cheap" cables).

Customer Review: NEEDED IF YOU HAVE HDTV
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently upgraded my TV to an HDTV and was extremely disappointed in the quality of the picture of the Nintendo Wii coming in via the standard RCA composite cables- Because an HDTV is essentially progressive technology, a composite SD signal is de-interlaced by the TV. This basically means that half the resolution (which is analog SD to begin with) is removed from the picture and it is up to the TV to "rebuild" the bits of missing picture... which it's not so great at.

The result is a softened picture with spots of bad (unsmooth) motion and additionally, this process takes a bit of time so there is a hair of a delay... this isn't a problem for most video, but since it's a video game system, you need the responsiveness of your actions to be immediately reflected on screen! Playing a game with a delay in the picture feels like fixing a watch with gardening gloves on.

The component cable sends a Progressive image that, while still Standard Definition, doesn't require the de-interlace process, which makes a TON of difference. Colors are more vibrant, the image is crisper and the delay is gone completely! Motion is smooth and precise. This cable is usually found for more then $30 or $40, but I was able to find it on Amazon via a 3rd party vendor for less then $5 (plus shipping) - a great deal.

Get this if you have a Wii and an HDTV... you NEED it.
