Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Hawking HWU8DD Hi-Gain USB Wireless-G Dish AdapterCustomer Review: Got it for a friend Summary: 5 Stars
I got this for a friend and he says that it is working fine
Not sure what the other reviews are saying but I tried it once myself and managed to locate many networks around me however when i tried to latch on to an open network i couldn't but again for fairness i tried it once only on the same day i got it and never again.
My friend got it as he is based off at a site and where he stays he used to get to the first floor to get access to the connection (he stayed at the second floor) since he got this he said that he never had to leave his room to get better signal
Get it if you are far away from your own network but do not count on the fact that it will give you access to remote open wireless connections.
Customer Review: Works well for me ... a definite improvement ... Summary: 5 Stars
Using this device was a definite improvement for me. I own a sailboat in a west coast harbor and was having difficulty connecting to high speed Internet services offered in the local area (my boat is 700 to 1000 feet from these commercial Internet gateways). I am using a Gateway Notebook with built-in wireless technology.
The Hawking Dish device has solved my problems by strengthening my computer's ability to connect to these services (btw ... using it now). Set up was easy. I just plugged it in, installed the Hawking software, and started to immediately use the device. I have not had to tweak or configure the hardware or software in any special way. Sometimes I get a stronger signal if I aim the dish directly at the signal area.
Customer Review: Hawking Hi-Gain USB Wifi Adapter Summary: 5 Stars
Hawking HWU8DD Hi-Gain USB Wireless-G Dish Adapter
This external wifi receiver with hi-gain antenna works superb. I work at SFO Airport in United Airlines Operations. We are on the ramp level right below the passenger terminal. Upstairs in the terminal is a T-Mobile Hotspot, available throughout the entire terminal. Downstairs I am just on the fringe of the signal. My internal wifi receiver in my notebook pc does not receive the signal because it is too weak. The Hawking Hi-Gain Wifi antenna/receiver picks up the siganl just fine, with 2 bars out of five. Does exactly what I wanted when I ordered the item.
Customer Review: Wow! Summary: 5 Stars
Main internet cable (Comcast) connection is on main floor (colonial home), we can easily get very good wireless connections from anywhere inside or outside the home, EXCEPT the basement, where it is dismal at best, (1.0 at its' worst up to 18 mbps at its' best). After reading recommendations & reviews, I purchased the Hawkins HWU8DD, expecting a half-way decent connection, at least good enough for the kids casual surfing. Was I wrong. The connection went all the way to 54.0 mbps. FYI: The main cable internet line goes through a computer with Vista and the one I hooked up the Hawkings to runs on XP. Set up was virtually painless and completed in less than 5 minutes. I am so impressed!
Customer Review: Excellent WiFi extender equipment Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased 2 of these units for a client in an *old* church. We needed to provide Internet and LAN access to the assistant rector's office and to the choir room without wires. The software installed in less than 1 minute. The unit in the office made the connection flawlessly. The choir room was the location tha worried me the most. It is below ground and below the window to the copier room where the WAP is located. In fact, when I first fired it up, things did look good - no signal, no link. But after about 30 seconds, it found the ActionTec WAP and nor runs 40%+ signal strength and 80%+ link quality. Surprised the heck out of me!
