Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Hawking HWDN1 Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Network USB Dish AdapterCustomer Review: Works like a charm! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the Hawking 300N Range Extender to replace a Linksys Wireless-G Range Extender. To provide some background, I had bought the Linksys from Fry's about 6-months ago, and after an excruciatingly difficult setup...(although I work in Info Technology industry)...I was able to get it installed. The Linksys started breaking down after 6-months, and required a reboot/reset....unplug, then plug back into the wall....multiple times a day. Interestingly, I called Fry's and they acknowledged getting multiple returns on the Linksys Wireless-G Range Extender. They said the BEST one to get is the Hawking 300N Range Extender, because they never get those returned. In fact, they couldn't keep them in stock. I ended up buying one on Amazon. This was the easiest product set-up I've ever seen. After opening the box - with the quick installation guide, and the install wizard - the entire set-up process was complete within 15-minutes!! The Hawking 300N Range Extender works great and provides a stronger signal than the Linksys Range Extender. For what it's worth...I have Verizon Fios Broadband Internet...and the Hawking works great with the Verizon Broadband Router.
Customer Review: Blew Me Away! Summary: 5 Stars
I hesitated to buy this based on several iffy reviews. My expectations being tempered I rolled the dice and clicked buy. In short, it more than tripled my signal strength (20% ---> 70%) and took roughly two minutes to have up and running. This thing made my day!
Also:
I don't like to install from CD without checking the manufacturers site for updates. Finding the drivers and software was painless. I mention this because there's nothing I hate more than losing a CD and having to care.
In addition, I left the internal wireless G modem running on my notebook to see if this would cause conflicts.
No problems of any sort as of this writing.
Customer Review: Works As Advertised! Summary: 5 Stars
I was a little skepticle about buying this product at first since most products like this are complete wastes of money, but this one works great! It's EXTREMELY easy to install and within minutes I had 5 new connections that I never was able to access before.
Pros: Works as advertised, relatively small, easy to install, works GREAT on XP AND Vista
Cons: somewhat fragile design
Also note that many networks these days are security enabled, so if you're buying this to try to steal you're neighbor's internet-- you MAY not be able to do so without a password. However, this is still a great product.
Customer Review: Great adapter Summary: 5 Stars
The first one I received had a loose connection or something. It would connect/disconnect if you looked at it wrong. Amazon replaced it with out any trouble. Amazon wins hands down on how they handle RMAs! Good job Amazon!
My new adapter works beautify. The performance is beyond my expectations! It far surpasses my other 300N adapters. Where I was getting ~1.5MB/s with the other adapters, I now get ~10MB/s. Personally, I would rather have a more compact device that didn't take up desk space, but oh well. It isn't too ugly, but now I have another cable hanging over my desk.
Customer Review: little dish antenna Summary: 5 Stars
Great little product. Had difficulties with having it work with the INTEL DUAL CORE MacBook Pro and only after spending hours trying, called the help number to find I needed to purchase the HWDN2 to work with the newest OS Snowleapard. I did that and it works great. I kept the HWDN1 for my wife's windows based laptop and it works as well as the one for my Mac. I've tried other products to extend the range of the 'G' and 'N' versions of wireless cards and these little dish receivers are the bomb!!! Relatively cheap too. FULL POWER AHEAD!!!!
