I was looking for compact speakers with a built-in amplifier to take the place of the poor quality little speakers on a 20" TV. The spoken voice was just not reproduced clearly with the TV speakers and it had become an increasing problem as I have gotten older. I wasn't looking for music quality speakers. These speakers are inexpensive, compact and match the gray cabinet if the TV. They are a big improvement over the TV speakers and I can hear what people are saying with the volume at a normal level. They take their power from a normal 120V outlet so there is no batteries to fool with. The TV connection is the 3.5 mm front jack meant for head phones. The speakers have their own volume control but are also controlled by the TV remote. I haven't tried them with music since that isn't what they were purchased for. They do what I wanted them to do and do it well. I am very satisfied with the product.Customer Review: Love these speakers.

I bought these speakers in 2005. 5 years, multiple Macs, and multiple moves later, they're still going strong and sound great! I tried to switch them out with an iLuv Portable Stereo Speaker Bar for Mac/ PC and Laptops (iSP150BLK) to get rid of the bulky (though standard-size) AC adapter they use, but after a couple minutes of that speaker bar's thin sound, I plugged these JBLs back in and packed the bar up to return it. Also, my cat loves audio cords and chewed through the cord connecting the left and right speakers...twice...but after looping the cut wires together and taping over the exposed wire with electrical tape, they still sound just as good as new. I am completely sold on these speakers. They produce a really nice sound, and are a great value.Customer Review: Big Sound, Small Package

I needed some speakers for my Mac Pro. I just needed a boost so I could hear my audio books without pressing my ear to the CPU. I chose the JBLs for their price and size. I wasn't expecting surround sound quality.
I was pleasantly surprised with the JBLs. The sound is good and, for their size, packs a much better wallop than I expected.
I have them sitting behind my monitor and have had no buzzing or humming as experience by others.
The adjustable volume knob is a nice feature, although I wish it wasn't as slippery. I have to hold onto the speaker to get a good grip.
I've listened to classical, rock, audio books and jazz so far and I'm very happy with the performance. I've even edited sound effects and can hear everything I need to without putting on headphones. I am happy with my purchase.

I've been looking for a quality pair of computer speakers for quite some time now. After reading about the JBL speakers, and going by the reviews, I decided to buy the speakers without ever hearing them. It's true!!! These speakers produce a full bodied, well mixed, and totally satisfying sound generated directly from my computer. The sound coming out of these small but elegant speakers blow other high value, high profile speakers out of the water. The comments others made about using two hands to turn the volume control knob are true. However, it takes so little energy and effort this should not even be a consideration. I Love these little guys. I have them on my desk to as a desktop sound system only. I don't use them as a main stereo source. I'm in a small office and each work station in the office has a pair of the Duets, and honestly for blasting your Itunes Music the sound is great, if the sound gets a lil tinny (like a tin can) or too bass heavy it's nothing a lil adjustment to the Itunes EQ can't fix. Their small with good sound clarity and pack a heavy bass sound when it counts. They can fill a 750sq ft studio office easily with it's sound. JBL has the best mini speakers out there in my opinion, I also have the JBL On Stage Speakers for iPod, AWESOME as well!!!
