This device allows for recording of any cable channel using component outputs.
It works very well in Linux and is supported in the recent 0.22 release of MythTV.
Video is encoded in h264. So viewing HD recordings from this device might be a problem for older systems. Although there are $200 ION nettops that can easily handle these recordings.
Complexity of this device is comparable to any other PC tuner/capture device.
I use this device with DirecTV HD receivers.

I love it, so far i been doing HD video of mw2 on the ps3. i mean is perfect, i could not ask for more. The only bad thing i found was properly intalling it, and it made it a bit hard for me, as i would get a "Blank Screen" message on my tv, if you get that all you need to do is restart the ps3 system, so the video setting will go back to default then you will be able to do the proper setting which is 720p not 1080p as i had it.
but overall best HD capture device for the ps3 out there :)

I bought this PVR for my youtube channel. I needed an HD recorder for my Xbox 360. Setting it up was simple. I downloaded 'HDPVR Capture' for my Mac and I was recording my gameplay in a snap. The quality is great. I am very pleased. It was a little bit pricey, but if you want to play and capture in hi def, this is a great way to go. I purchased the HD PVR approx 2mo;s ago...and have aleady fell in love with it. I use it to record all my fav's from my Cable DVR, in the AVCHD format, which I can then stream back to my PS3 for playback on my HDTV. It's the perfect set-up ;)
Once I updated to the new drivers...everything works flawlessly. I can record DD5.1 surround via SPDIF and the HD video files are PS3 compliant. Thanks Hauppauge!
