Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Griffin iTrip Universal FM Transmitter and Charger for MP3 PlayersCustomer Review: Quite satisfied Summary: 5 Stars
I give the Ease of Use a 5 because it is very simple to use but if there were an instructions rating I would say probably 2 or 3. There is only a single printed paper without much instructions, however, once you play with it a bit there isn't much need. Hold the preset button down until what your wanting to change is flashing and use the arrow key to change it to what you want and then wait till it stores it. This is how you set a preset, how the Mono/Stereo is change, and how the US/Intl is changed (in that order, so the button has to be held down for 20+ seconds for the US/Intl to start flashing).
I am quite satisfied with the sound quality but I am not an audiophile and am not listening to music but rather to sermons which for sound comparison would be more like an audio book.
Other reviewers had a problem with the signal strength but it seems strong here but the dial isn't crowded (along the Northern Colorado Front Range from Cheyenne to Denver). In mono the signal is even stronger. I only have one area where I had any problem and every radio station I have ever listened to in that 1/4 mi. stretch has problems.
The only issue I had was one similar to another reviewer that it was going into sleep mode and turning itself off every 50 sec. It is supposed to detect when the audio has paused for 50s and shut itself off but it was doing it every 50s. I made 2 one hour trips where I turned it back on each time it shut off. When I got home I had an idea and plugged the mp3 player into the USB jack. I had not done this previously as my mp3 player uses a AAA battery and is not charged via USB. This solved the problem. I am not certain why, but my best theory at this point is that I am using a rechargeable battery which is only 1.2 volts and an alkaline runs at 1.5 volts. By plugging it into the charger the flash drive part may now be being powered by the charger and so the voltage drop is less significant and maybe the lower voltage was enough to make the device think there was no signal. I had initially thought that despite the sparse documentation not listing that the device needed to be plugged into the charger that it did. I tested this though by plugging a USB stick into the charger so that it would recognize there was something plugged in (there is a green light that turns orange when something is plugged into the USB charger) but despite the light turning orange it still shut off after 50s. This last section I am going into some detail on just in case there is anyone that has a similar issue that they can potentially check voltage drop issues.
Description of Griffin iTrip Universal FM Transmitter and Charger for MP3 PlayersiTrip - it's not just for iPod anymore. We call this one "auto" because it gets its power from your vehicle's 12 Volt accessory outlet. And we call it "universal" because it works with any portable audio device that has a standard 1/8" headphone jack (including CDs, MP3s, cassettes, and yes, even iPod). Additionally, the "Plus" in this iTrip model is the ability to charge your player by means of a built-in USB port. Plug in your player's USB charge/sync cable, and you get to listen to your tunes while you're traveling, and arrive with a fully-charged player.
