Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Griffin PowerJolt Redesign Car Charger for iPod and iPhone 1G (Black)Customer Review: Flexible option for charging your iPhone / iPod Summary: 5 Stars
The Griffin PowerJolt (Redesign) is a iPhone / iPod compatible car charger which has some flexibility beyond traditional iPhone car chargers that I had owned before.
My previous Griffin PowerJolt SE Car Charger with Coiled Cable for iPod and iPhone 1G (Black)worked fine but was a bit limited due to the integrated iPhone cable - this will not work with some iPhone accessories such as the PocketDock Line Out USB and can also be an issue due to the short length of the cable. The Griffin PowerJolt allows me to use my SendStation accessory and to use a USB extension cable if the charger is not close to the iPhone.
Like most Griffin accessories, this unit is well-designed and rock solid and has performed without a issue in four months of use. Highly recommended.
Note: Make sure you get the correct product, esp. if ordering from a Marketplace seller - one of them shipped me an older design PowerJolt which was not designed for iPhone charging. The redesign unit has a round end with an LED ring to indicate charge status; most of the older units have an oval-shaped end.
Customer Review: Works perfectly for ipods, iphones 3g and 3Gs. Great for power outages too. Summary: 5 Stars
Even though the product literature doesn't specify these things, it does work for all three items mentioned in the title of this review. I've had mine for many months and never had a problem. it charges fast, and I like having a replaceable fuse that can be tripped if there is a power surge instead of frying my device. It was my life-line to charge my devices when I was without power for 3 days. Think about it that way if you are in areas that are prone to power outages especially if you only have an iphone (that that runs down fast) and no land-line as a back-up, plus my recharged ipod kept me entertained with movies and music during the down time.
A friend liked it so much that I just bought him one too. I don't use the black cord to charge anywhere else but in the vehicle, so I can't say if it does or doesn't work well in place of the white one that comes with your device. So just use that one in the house or replace it with a quality one for a few bucks .... and leave the black one in the vehicle where it belongs so it will be there when you need it. :o)
Customer Review: Works with iPhone 3Gs Summary: 5 Stars
Just confirming that it works flawlessly with the 3Gs, as others here have stated. Amazon has quite a way of naming products and being vague about details. At the moment the title for this products reads, "Griffin PowerJolt Redesign Home/Car Charger for iPod and iPhone 1G (Black)"
I also want to say that it fits the phone well, clipping into it nicely. Two release buttons are easy to depress and keep the cord securely to the phone when in use. This cord is better than the one that came with the phone and is more like the old iPod cords that had the release buttons. This cord is a few inches longer than the one that comes with the phone and is more than enough for me in my car.
The adapter seats snugly into my cigarette lighter pulls out easily. Removing the USB end of the cord from it is effortless. Overall the fit and finish is nicer than any other charger I've seen to date.
Customer Review: Works perfectly for iPod Summary: 5 Stars
I use this for my iPod Video, and it works perfectly. When connected to my car outlet, the iPod charges and unlike other chargers I have used it does not create background noise while charging. When I detach the cable and use it on my PC, the PC picks up the iPod just as it would with the official cable and iTunes syncs as it should.
The charging light is an extremely useful feature. When the iPod is charging the light turns orange, and when it is no longer charging it turns green. Seeing as I can't always look at my iPod in the car to check battery level, this feature is indespensible. The charger also has its own replaceable fuse so you can recover from any surges and your iPod is protected.
Customer Review: Grigffin iPhone Charger Summary: 5 Stars
I do have this charger, because I just purchased the new iPhone 3GS at Apple Store, and I did not leave the store w/o a car charger.
And it works great.
Better Yet, it confirms you are charging at the face of the adapter block in cig socket with a large Green LED ring, it then turns Orange while charging.
When it's done charging, it cycles a trickle on and off to keep the battery topped off.
There is also a 110v adapter block that comes in the kit. It's about 1 inch square with a USB port.
You simply use the same cord which is a USB standard on one end and use it for the 110v adapter.
So you could also charge other devices that use a USB charging port.
