Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Griffin 9781-TRP30BK iTrip FM Transmitter with Dock Connector for iPod (Black)

Customer Review: itrip LCD is excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

A colleague was talking postively about his experience with itrip. I was inspired and decided to get one. When I looked at all the reviews here on amazon I was quite concerned.

However, based on my colleagues experience I decided to go ahead and give it a try.

I have found the device excellent.

I've used it in two cars. I have each car preset to the frequency I've selected. I selected the best frequency by cycling through all frequencies in the car that had the best radio reception for a frequency that had a significant gap each side.

I have had no problems with the itrip. The flexibility to be able to tune it to any frequency is great and the mini USB port to allow me to charge it from my car charger is an added bonus.

My daughter is able to sit in the back seat of the car and act as DJ without any problems.

I should mention I live in Sydney/Australia not the USA and our population is about 4.3 million.

Reading many poor reviews on this site I noticed a lot of people complained about static and the ability to tune it to a frequency that received well. I have had no negative results in this area.

A lot of people also complained about how it sucks battery power. I wasn't even worried about this because the box indicates that it has a mini USB socket for charging. I have used this and it's great. But last time when my daughter was playing DJ from the back seat it was just running off the ipod battery and it seemed fine. However, I am quite happy to plug it into the charger.

I've experimented walking away from the car to see how far away I could get and I found that the distance was enough to give me absolute confidence that it will continue to work well in our car.

The other complaint people made was that the quality was not as good.

In my experience it sounds fine. It isn't as good as playing a CD. I did sit for a while switching between CD and ipod on FM to try and guage the difference. Whilst I believe there is a difference it is more than acceptable to me and sometimes is hard to pick. If I was trying to quantify what the difference was I would say that your trebles don't have as much treble and your bases don't have as much base.

This device is everything I hoped for and more.

Finally let me say that I have never reviewed anything here. The reason I've posted this review is because I feel a lot of the bad reviews given here are unjustified. That made me feel that obliged to comment on my own positive experience.

Customer Review: hey- it works!
Summary: 5 Stars

So, after reading a myriad of negative reviews of this product I had pretty much decided against getting it. This weekend my sister was up and we were out on a lake with NO radio reception and she pulled out her pod (old one- not sure which generation) with her itrip attached and it was AWESOME- the sound quality was good (if not great) and on the way home we tried it in the car and it worked just as well. So, I went down to Best Buy and forked over the $$ for it, plugged it in to my ipod video and it worked. I think it's really the best option for using in the car if you don't have a cassette deck to use (I've heard cassette is THE best). I like the fact that I don't have cords all over the place like others that are "inline" chargers/transimtters. I drive a 2000 Intrepid with the antenna at the back of the car and I can have the pod/trip in the front seat in my hand and have clear reception. There's a little cubby on my console that it fits nicely into and I do live in a VERY rural area but almost every FM station does have something on it. I commute to a slightly larger city daily and I have good reception the whole way. Yes, there are parts that get staticky (?) but my radio does as well in those spots. So, if you're looking for a TOTALLY portable solution to music I highly recommend this- it's not going to be CD quality but if you wanted that you'd bring your CD's along right? Also, there is a 5 pin mini-usb available that plugs into the bottom of the trip for a charger if you want to buy it. I think it was around $20 when I checked into it.

Customer Review: Amazing Device!
Summary: 5 Stars

Originally, I bought a Belkin Tuncast Auto Live from the Apple store thinking that they would sell the products which worked best with iPods. How wrong I was. Seriously - do not waste your money on one of those. I could not even get a clear signal on it standing still! I immediately returned it and starting researching alternatives on Amazon. I read all the reviews for the iTrip and decided to try it, in spite of some of the bad reviews. All I can tell you is that for me, this product was practically a miracle. We immediately found a compatible station and started getting a clear signal. While driving around to test it out, we noticed that there was a bit of fuzz from time to time, so we found another signal which was very strong and virtually fuzz free. I was worried that since I live in a major city (Dallas) within 2 miles of the downtown area that I would not be able to find any device which did not have tons of static, but this product does it. Every once in a while there is a tiny bit of static when we turn a corner, but I have found that these instances are quite rare and I don't even notice it anymore when it does happen. Also - I found that my old Motorola phone charger has the same jack as the iTrip and I am able to charge it using that while I drive. I understand you can buy the Powerjolt for this purpose, but if you already have a phone charger, it might work with the iTrip.

Customer Review: Griffin iTrip one of best FM transmitters for iPod Nano
Summary: 5 Stars

The Griffin 9781-TRP30BK iTrip FM Transmitter with LCD and Dock Connector for iPod is an outstanding product for me with my iPod Nano (Second Gen). It is made specifically for iPods with dock connectors. I can use it in my house, car, or at work via any FM Stereo. It mounts very securely to the iPod Nano, in the same fashion as the iPod USB cable (mini gripping hooks). The sound quality is better than the two other FM transmitters I put my money into before, and it has a much better design. Not compatible with any other Portable Media players which has a connector that doesn't imitate the iPod's, which is fine with me, as my iPod suites me perfectly. I have been thoroughly impressed by its functionality and its attractive design. All my friends are impressed with it as well. Definitely the best accessory I have purchased for my iPod, bar none. I recommend purchasing the Griffin 9749-PJBLK PowerJolt Auto Charger for iPod to go with this product, as you can charge your iPod in the car while hooked up to the Griffin iTrip and your iPod will still play, unlike when hooked into your computer.

Customer Review: Great!
Summary: 5 Stars

The iTrip is a great device for listening to iPods in the car. It is nice and clear when it broadcasts on a blank station.

It works on all cars, old radios, and anything with FM.

It uses the iPod battery, so that's one less thing to worry about. It also only turns on when the iPod plays music. It is good energy saver.

Some people may have trouble finding stations. This website help with that. It finds the best radio station and it works!
http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/vacant

It has decent range but keep in mind that some cars have their antennas at the back of the car, so if someone is not in the backseat it may be a problem. If the antenna is at the back and the iPod is at the front, the audio quality won't be too good.

Don't forget the iPod when you leave the car!

Other than that, it works like it should.
