Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Gravis Eliminator GamePad Pro (PC/USB Mac)

Customer Review: great
Summary: 5 Stars

this is an exellent gamepad and i highly recomend it. the only thing thats on the downside is that if u wana play a baseball game and 2 throw it 2 a base u have 2 press a direction on the d pad but since this d pad is like a joystick its hard 2 get it 2 the right base.

Customer Review: Good, good.
Summary: 4 Stars

Well, in my opinion, this is a good gamepad. The problem is for me is that it doesn't have a 15 pin connector, just for USB. I couldn't use it because my 98 is unstable. So that means it is only for 98 and up (they said so, if people say 95, don't believe them). Well, the D pad is like a joystick, moveable in all directions. The buttons and shoulder buttons are labeled in numbers, from 1 to 10. It does look like a PS1 controller, without analog joysticks or whatever you call them. There is a CD for you to configure the buttons, even you can probably try doing specials in games. For my controller (I returned it, no other had a 15 pin connector), I had a bit of trouble with L1 (think of a PS1), I had to push it a bit more harder than the others, probably won't happen for you. This gamepad will do well in SNES emulators (I hope). Just mess around with the thing until you get it right. It is just a bit hard reaching for the shoulder buttons.

Customer Review: feels good on hand, but d-pad needs improvement

This is my third gamepad from Gravis. They really make nice gamepads, if only they make them durable enough! I like the way Gravis weigh down the wings... makes holding on to it feel good. The button design and layout has always been well thought of, but problems always starts with the direction pads. After a few months, they start having calibration problems. It progressively gets worse, and after a year, you feel like throwing it away and getting a new one.

Good thing is they are relatively cheap. But I really wish they could improve the direction pads so I don't need to keep buy a new one annually!

Customer Review: Great gamepad, but fragile...
Summary: 2 Stars

When I saw it in the store, I held it on the display to see if it was good. It felt great, I liked how the buttons were situated. But if you have Windows 2000 or Windows XP, the software you have to use is only available on the Gravis site, and is only in Beta form. But thats not the bad part about it.

I use the pad for no more than a couple days, and it no longer wants to move up or down. I figure its a driver problem, so I uninstall and reinstall the software package. Still no go. Be very careful with the directional pads on this gamepad and any ones with a similar rounded directional pad, as they are very cheaply manufactured and break easily. If I could, I would have returned it, but it was a sale item. It has a three year warranty, but the way I play games with it, I really don't want to have to keep sending the gamepad back every couple weeks to get fixed.

You are better off with the normal Gamepad Pro or Gamepad Pro USB, that looks like a Playstation or PS2 controller, as it has a better directional pad (it isn't the rounded type).

Customer Review: Lots of programmability, but control is scattershot
Summary: 2 Stars

The Gravis GamePad Pro was the first gamepad I gravitated towards after doing some major gaming-oriented computer upgrades. It looked cool, had plenty of support features, the Gravis name, and the unique D-pad feels like it would be perfect for all sorts of gaming.
Much of this is true. The software is excellent, all buttons are completely programmable to your needs, and it's easy to install. The downside comes with calibration. I calibrated in Windows and within specific games and the GamePad Pro could never achieve a satisfactory calibration. The cars in my racing games were all over the place, taking the fun factor to zero. Very frustrating.
I returned this controller and exchanged it for the far superior Microsoft Sidewinder Gamepad USB. This controller may fare better on some other types of games or other systems, but it was certainly not for me.
