Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of GlobalSat BU-353 Waterproof USB GPS Receiver

Customer Review: Works great in Sailboat!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the GlobalSat BU-353 GPS mouse from amazon and installed the drivers from their online site. My laptop runs Windows XP home with a free Chart software called OpenCPN and the free charts downloaded from nauticalcharts.noaa.gov, yes you can your charts for free from NOAA!

Last weekend was the real test. We sailed from San Francisco Bay to Half Moon Bay with an overcast sky and I used the GPS mouse/laptop in the cabin at the nav station! I just left it sitting next to the laptop, not outside! Next day we sailed from Half Moon Bay to Moss Landing and it worked perfectly.

This GPS mouse works great.

Customer Review: Fantastic!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Absolutely fantastic! It exceeded my expectations. It's solidly built (which was one of my concerns, given the cheap price), extremely easy to install, and very, very fast and accurate.

I almost went with a more expensive model, just because I couldn't believe that such a cheap GPS could possibly work as well as advertised. I honestly expected a cheaply made GPS... but I was very pleasantly surprised!

Just fantastic. If you're looking for a GPS receiver to use with a product such as Microsoft's Streets and Trips, or GRLevel 3 radar, or some other similar GPS compatible software, then look no further!

Customer Review: Great product & great price.
Summary: 5 Stars

This product worked just as described in the product specification. It took a second to install and it worked great with Microsoft Mappoint 2006. It only took a couple of second to receive the GPS signal and the rest is easy. I didn't have to put the receiver on the roof of my car, it picked up the signal wherever you are, even inside my home I still got the signal. This product is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone who own a laptop. I had no problem installing it on windows XP. You simply plug the device, put the CD driver on and "Voila", it's done. Get yourself one, it is well worth it.

Customer Review: Vista and MapPoint 2006
Summary: 5 Stars

This unit worked flawlessly w/ my Dell 1525 laptop, Vista and MapPoint 2006.
I picked this up for a trip from Atlanta to Wisconsin in a 24ft moving truck. I had the gps unit sitting on the dash w/ the laptop on the seat and it never dropped signal or had any problems even tho I was always facing north and had the tall box of the truck and roof of the cab in the 'line of sight' to the satellites.
The only 'gotcha' was make sure you run the included GPSInfo program as administrator. Initially when I ran gpsinfo to test the gps I was not running as admin and the program would not detect the gps.

Customer Review: Impressed.!

Why will you wait for satellites to be found when you can have this antenna?.
I was shoked when i connected it on my Vista Ultimate 64 Bits. I was afraid on the x64 drivers and that thing but it was just perfect (Plug & Sail). I didn't knew anything about GlobalSat but now i'm kind of lovin' it.! I'll use it on my laptop as a gps for Maptech Chart View and it's stunning how this little thing works. Testet inside my home and it showed me where i was. Tested latter inside my boat and the same thing. Works better than garmin's 100's $$ gps antennas.

I recommend this product to everyone.!
