Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Genius MousePen 8 x 6-Inch Graphic Tablet for Home and Office

Customer Review: Excellent Drawing Tool
Summary: 5 Stars

Contents:

- Tablet
- Digital Pen
- Wireless Mouse
- Driver Software/Tablet Software CD-ROM
- Bundled Software (Adobe Photoshop Extended - Trial, Corel Painter - Trial)
- 2 spare pen tips & Tip remover
- 2 AAA Batteries (1 for the pen and one for the mouse)

Installation and Set-up

You must install the drivers before attaching the tablet to your PC. Overall the installtion is very easy. Once the drivers are installed, you must restart your PC.

USAGE:

I tested this software with Paint, and it is a breeze to draw and/or copy works of art. The tablet is configured to the position of the cursor on the screen. The position of the pen is even detected while it is just a few millimeters above the surface of the tablet. Thereofre it can be used instead of a mouse. The pen has 2-button on it that makes it function like a mouse as well.

Conclusion:

A valuable piece of equipment for any digital artist that doesn't have the resources for a large investment.

Customer Review: I like it.
Summary: 5 Stars

Pretty good product, especially for the price. It's slim and light and large enough to use comfortably, and the pen is easy to hold, although I cut a slot in a pencil grip and put it on to better accommodate my giant hands. Having a battery in it doesn't make it too heavy. The pressure sensitivity works well, but to get it to work, the tablet must be plugged into a newly-booted computer (after logging in), before loading anything else. This is not a problem with Genius' products alone. Even that holy grail of tablets, Wacom, does this. It is a software problem that's basically universal.

Previous to owning this product, I used a Wacom Graphire 3. I owned two of them, actually. This product is superior to it, despite not having an eraser on the top of the barrel. It performs all basic and intermediate drawing functions perfectly well and is easy to use for basic web navigation as well. Whether it can stack up to the newer Bamboo line, I don't know - But if you liked the Graphire, this tablet does everything it did (minus the eraser) and more.

Customer Review: Affordable, good quality, graphic tablet...
Summary: 5 Stars

The road that lead to buying the Genius MousePen 8X6 Graphic Tablet for Home and Office started when I purchased a Canon - CanoScan 4400F Flatbed Scanner, which came with some pretty decent photo-editing software. After becoming proficient with the software, a friend asked if I could restore two water damaged photos, and after starting on them, I realized that using the mouse for this was just too awkward. So I did a little research, and was satisfied that the Genius was my best option in both quality and price. When it arrived, I found out that my new computer already had a graphic tablet driver in it, so I plugged it in, and it worked like a charm... didn't even have to calibrate it. Also, it's compatible with Vista, which I have. Be advised to check the compatibility with your OS; some people don't, and are then in for a rude awakening when it doesn't work. If it works with your system, I highly recommend it. Have fun, MJ

Customer Review: Take it from a fellow artist....
Summary: 5 Stars

Richard nailed this one on the head. I too was looking for an inexpensive tablet to start my dabbling in the digital paint field. I have been using Photoshop for a number of years now and wanted to upgrade my coloring abilites for my artwork.

This tablet is awesome! If you do as Richard says to do and make sure you've got the driver loaded, adjust the seeting for the tablet, it works like a charm.

I have owned now for a few weeks, and other than one instance where I plugged it in AFTER I started Photoshop up, I haven't had a single issue with it. I can get a fine brush stroke with a large sized brush and the pen handles quite well. It is a bit bulky, but I am adjusting to it easily. It's really not that different than drawing with a Sharpie marker.

I am more than happy with this purchase and glad I ignored all the bad reviews. I am pretty stoked for what art lies ahead for me.

And a big Thank You to Richard for posting tips on how to make it function properly.

Customer Review: My first tablet!
Summary: 5 Stars

As the title suggests, this is my very first tablet and I absolutely love it. At first I was really worried about purchasing this tablet because of some negative reviews, but I couldn't afford anything else at the time. Turns out someone bought it for me as a gift so I didn't have to, but after using it I would have gladly paid the price myself. It's true that it doesn't work in GIMP (which was what I was originally going to use it in) at least that was MY experience. Although it will work once in a while with it (minus pressure sensitivity). So I downloaded paint tool SAI. It works flawlessly. I honestly can't think of anything I DON'T like about it, but if I had to gripe, I had very minimal difficulty setting up the drivers, but that was resolved in all of about 7 minutes. Before this I've never had ANY previous experience with tablets, but looking at mine I really don't know what any of the more expensive ones could do that this one can't.
