Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Genius MousePen 8 x 6-Inch Graphic Tablet for Home and Office

Customer Review: Works Great - but read this first!
Summary: 5 Stars

Read this review BEFORE INSTALLING this TABLET.
Since there is NOTHING to manually install.
The previous reviews for this product on Amazon seem to be old.

Even though the Tablet comes with instructions to install the Tablet Driver first - Don't!
All you need to do is: (I have Windows XP)
1) Plug in the Tablet into your USB port
Windows will recognize it automatically and install it for you(Plug & Play)
2) Insert a fresh battery to the MousePen (By pulling it apart NOT TWISTING IT - if you twist you would break it).
That's all I had to do.
Works GREAT!

Unfortunately I learned that the hard way. Because initially I followed the instructions that came with the Tablet to install the Tablet drivers. The Driver on the CD would not install properly so I downloaded the XP Drivers from the Genius [...] which installed properly.
But then the tablet did not work.

Eventually I called their tech help and the guy told me to uninstall the driver and let windows install it automatically for me.

I would recommend downloading the Tablet manual. The Tablet box although large comes with very little documentation and the installation documentation is incorrect.

By the way the batteries that came with the unit were good.

Customer Review: Great tablet!

I learned to use tablets on an amazing set up...I did digital photo work and had a huge Wacom with a dream computer and twin monster monitors. I was wary about getting this dinky little thing. Especially on my quaint little monitor.

I put it on my wishlist anyway, based on a good amount of solid reviews, and my parents ended up getting it for me, as a birthday gift.

The pen did feel a bit cheap and flimsy at first. The plastic body of the tablet seemed a little reminiscent of my old Barbie house, spray painted gray. I was worried.

Then I realized I hadn't quite gotten the pen back together fully after putting in the battery. After getting drivers installed (I have XP--this was as simple as could be), I began playing. And immediately forgot all concerns.

I spent a good while working through software woes (most notably is learning brush dynamics in GIMP), but the tablet itself works beautifully.

It is very hard to trace anything under the plastic--the pen hitting at different angles does affect the cursor placement on your screen. But personally, I prefer scanning something in and working over it anyway (I've been doing digital 'inking' of pencil drawings), and I have yet to find any ways in which the wacom is superior.

Customer Review: Great Tablet for the Price!

If you think you might want a graphics tablet, but don't feel like shelling out the big bucks, this is the tablet for you! I'm a student and I waited years, literally, to buy a tablet because they've been so expensive. I didn't want to plunk down $100+ and find out I didn't use it or like it.

I've had this tablet for almost two years now and it's still going strong. By the way, I LOVE it! Every time I look at it, I'm so pleased that I found a decent tablet for a great price. I've had a lot of fun with it and want to recommend it to anyone debating whether to get this or a more expensive model. I've used it for doodling, for playing iSketch (Pictionary), and for inserting equations and diagrams into school work.

PROS:
* Inexpensive
* Lots of features
* Easy to install
* Pressure-sensitive
* Works great
* Durable

CONS:
* Probably better suited for beginner tablet users (though I see no reason other than the clunkiness of it size why an expert would be frustrated with this model).
* Tablet face is an echo of the screen (if pen is in upper left of tablet, it's in upper left of screen), which takes some getting used to. Not a huge con in my book.

Customer Review: Cooler than I ever thought it would be.

For months ahead of time I looked at a variety of graphing tablets, most of my searches lead me to Wacom. For one of a decent size I was looking at dropping several hundred dollars. Which was pretty risky seeing how I had never even used a graphing tablet before I ordered this. I've been drawing for as long as I could hold a pencil which is close to thirty years now, and I thought perhaps I would miss the tactile feeling of paper or become discouraged by a steep learning curve.

After using this product for three months I have no complaints. In fact I don't even know how a 400 dollar tablet could be better. The tablet's pressure sensitivity is amazing. The harder you press the darker or thicker the line, it's so sensitive that I found little to no learning curve. I thought that I wouldn't be so happy with the drawing area on the tablet, but that hasn't been an issue at all.

Even installation is a breeze. However I have heard that there was some issues with the drivers provided with the tablet. But the fix to that is just going to the manufacturers website and downloading the current ones.

Customer Review: Bang for the buck

This is my first graphic tablet. It came a couple days ago, setup was just a few clicks. Then i installed latest drivers from Genius website. At first i had problem controlling the pen and such. However i think it's because this was my first tablet. So i started to study on Photoshop to learn to use this better. I would like to say those who complain about Photoshop sensivity issue probably don't know how to use Photoshop. To use pen and brush tool effectively you have to setup Pen Pressure settings in Brush and Pen settings section of PS.

By the end of the day i was able to produce a professional looking comic page. I will use this for professional purposes and even though i never used a Wacom i can say it wouldn't be much better than this, since i am able to produce professional looking works with this tablet too. Overall even if you have enough money to buy Wacom i would recommend to buy this instead first, because it's so cheap and it would especially be great for beginners. If you have a child who likes drawing, this would be a great birthday present too. All it takes some patience and study.
