This is the third FM transmitter I've purchased; the first was a $10 no-name that worked great for a year until it fried itself, the next was an actual branded Belkin unit that couldn't filter out a darn thing in terms of car A/C and other stations (and incoming signals on my cell phone just made that thing shriek), and now this eForcity goodie. This model's RF filter is excellent - no interference at all from the car itself nor the cell phone. Very slight amounts of static occasionally when driving out of city range, but nothing unduly noticeable. Station setting is easy, and sound clarity - while perhaps not CD quality to the pure audiophile, is pretty darn good to my ears. The only problem I've had with it was the base connector somehow unscrewed itself and its built-in fuse fell out - an easy fix, simply screwed the bottom nut back on a bit tighter. This probably occured because I'm always removing the unit and placing it in my glovebox so no one will see it when I'm not in the car. I bought this to use with my 3rd generation iPod Nano - it works great with this item and it performs well as a charger also (though my iPod rarely leaves the car!).
This appears to be a knockoff of a model sold in Canada known as the Canada Drive Safe unit - I've only seen this item's home page, where it is listed at almost $70 CA. I'm sure this item works very well, but for under twenty bucks, the eForcity unit does everything I want it to do. One person commented that the unit does not turn off the iPod/iPhone when you shut off the car ... actually, none of the three models I've had thus far (including the Belkin!) have done that, so I don't count that as a negative against this model.
The station indicator on the top of the model is indeed in a rather awkward place, but fortunately I don't need to change the station once it's set very often. There is a little blue light on the top of the power connector that I find rather irritating while driving at night (my significant other, on the other hand, likes it), but a little piece of electrical tape can cover that right up :)I drive a Toyota with the power socket on the center console right next to the gearshift; I COULD wish for the gooseneck on this model to be a tad longer so it would get up OVER the gearshift knob, but it is flexible enough to bend out of the way.
Overall, I really like the unit and deem it to be well worth the few dollars it costs. I will actually buy a second one as a gift.
