Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of HDMI Splitter Amplifier 1 In to 2 Out Dual DisplayCustomer Review: Delivers the goods Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this splitter from eBay after reading mostly positive reviews here on Amazon. I've had this device for about 2 weeks and I'm very happy with it so far. It splits a HD DishNet receiver signal to a 50 inch plasma (6 foot HDMI cable) and a 19 inch LCD in my kitchen (45 feet of HDMI, actually a 35-footer connected to a 10-foot extender). I'm not sure who makes it, but I believe it's made in China and the build quality is questionable to suspect. So why 5 stars? Because the splitter works as advertised, allowing me to view both sets in HD simultaneously or separately. When my plasma is on and I turn on my LCD, I lose the plasma signal for a second and then I get it right back, but I don't have the problem when I turn on the plasma while the LCD is connected. I make a point of turning off the plasma before turning on my LCD now just in case. Since I've added the 10 foot extender to my kitchen TV, I'm noticing very mild pixilation the first 30 seconds or so, but nothing after that. For what it's worth, I've built my dual HD system on the cheap, using nothing but generic cables I bought from eForcity that sell for like 5 cents on the dollar compared to what they sell at BestBuy. I'm pretty sure if I'd paid hundreds more I'd have a better signal but I'm not sure the difference is discernible, and I wouldn't pay the difference even if it was. Low-end HD is pretty awesome compared to what I'm used to and I've had nice TV's in the past. If you've just paid thousands for a high-end TV, I wouldn't mess with any of the stuff I'm using. DishNet and most cable/satellite companies will sell/rent you an extra cable box for $5 to $10 month. Even if you're not a high-end user, you may want to consider getting an extra box because the results of what's referred to as a "3-way HDMI handshake" are unpredictable. I'm in the HDTV market only because of the precipitous price drop that's put TV's I wasn't even looking at 2 years ago in my home, and this splitter fits my system very nicely.
