I bought a handful of these for the price of dinner at a cheap, sit-down restaurant. It has been tested successfully with a few different devices (music players, bluetooth hands-free units, and USB-powered devices). The only device I have found that won't charge is a PS3 controller.
I kept one USB charger at work, one at home, and kept one in my backpack; I never feared for my USB chargeable devices so long as a wall outlet was nearby. They worked so well that my roommate ended up taking two or three for himself. He hasn't had any problems with them. Buying a few of these at a time is a good idea because you will quickly find they have many uses.
It takes up two to three outlets on a typical linearly-aligned power strip. It could take up less space on a power strip.
I gave 4 stars for compatibility because of the PS3 controller. I purchased this product with the intent to charge my PS3 controllers while my PS3 was powered down.
