Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Zenith ZHDTV1 HDTV-UHF Digital Indoor Antenna (Silver and Black)Customer Review: Works great for me Summary: 5 Stars
I live about 27 miles away from the transmitting towers in my city. I am using this antenna inside my bedroom on the second story of a townhouse, with relatively few buildings obstructing the signal path. However my room is on the far side of the house, so in the direction the antenna is pointing, there must be several walls the signal must travel through to my antenna. I am also using an amplifier with this antenna.
With this setup, I am able to clearly receive nearly all the channels being broadcast in my area. It did take some time to experiment with the placement of the antenna before I could receive some of the channels. Also note that without the amplifier, I was only receiving about half of the channels. I have not tried other antennas, so I cannot compare, but I can say that this antenna has worked very well for me.
Customer Review: Very good Performance Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this antenna after reading the great reviews on this web page. I had tried the RCA, Jensen, and the Terk TV5. I can't believe how a light weight almost toy like device does such a good job in receiving UHF HDTV signals. It beats all the others and it is not amplified! I live in Laurel Maryland and I am about 30 miles away from DC and Baltimore, close to the big satelites dishes of the NSA (National Security Agency). Reception here is really bad. I can get NBC, CBS, ABC and PBS out of Baltimore. No luck with the D.C. Stations. I can usually find a spot for the antenna that lets me get three of the four mentioned staions from any given location. I am using it with the Zenith HDV 420. Even when there isn't a HD broadcast, the digital picture I get is superior to the same station on cable. Jay Leno never looked so good.
Customer Review: Great product at great price Summary: 5 Stars
I live between 25 and 30 miles from basically all the local broadcasting stations in Metro Detoit and get beautiful HD reception from all but the CW network. This antenna works wonderfully, has low cost, and is really easy to setup and point in the right direction. Some stations come in better by switching the antenna between horizontal and vertical. This is also very easy to do in seconds. I have Satellite TV right now and I'm watching on a 56" Toshiba DLP TV. The 10 HD channels I receive over the air come in perfectly and are enough so that I am not planning to upgrade my Satellite to an HD package (at least not for a while). The local channels are good enough for now, especially since they are free the low cost of this antenna is all I had to spend (TV must have built in HD tuner or additional external tuner box will be required).
Customer Review: Highly Directional Greatness Summary: 5 Stars
If you are looking for a backup in case you satellite dish isn't working (during a storm) or just want the major shows without paying a dime, this device is what you need! I live about 17 miles from all broadcasting stations in my area and receive all of them. I wouldn't recommend much more than that, however, since I have to have the antenna in a special place to avoid the brief black-outs every fifteen minutes or so.
I venture to say that the HD content I receive over the air looks better than the stuff I get from digital cable! It may just be my imagination (free always looks better to me :) but it does seem crisper.
So, the bottom line is this: if you live within 20 miles of the broadcasting stations (antennaweb.org if you don't know distance), get this antenna! It is cheap and works beautifully.
Customer Review: Amazing little antenna Summary: 5 Stars
I have to say that the other reviews are dead on. I live about 25 miles west of Philadelphia. After trying a both the Terk indoor HDTVi and the Terk satellite clip on antennas, I was only able to pick up a few digital stations with a signal strenth ranging in between 15-35% even with an 6db amp installed on the indoor Terk. I couldn't even get a lock on Fox, PBS, or any of the smaller stations.
Last night I received the Gemini. The installation was simple. It only took a minute to assemble and the results are amazing. The Gemini with the same 6db amp picked up every digital station in the area including all the major and minor networks. It also picked up the extra two substations that the local ABC broadcasts. I now have signal strengths ranging in between 55-90%.
It's a great little antenna.
