Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Zenith ZHDTV1 HDTV-UHF Digital Indoor Antenna (Silver and Black)Customer Review: Cheap, flimsy, unamplified... Excellent! Summary: 5 Stars
Since my HDTV is located in the basement (which is basically a underground box surrounded by concrete), I knew I couldn't pick up any signal down there, no matter how powerful the antenna. I had to go above-ground for a good signal. After a few unsucessful attempts using rabbit-ear type antennas mounted in my garage, I was ready to give up and resign myself to spending $100+ for an outdoor antenna. But after seeing the rave reviews for this little thing, I decided to give an indoor model one last shot.
Turns out, the reviews were accurate. It did take a while to find the 'sweet spot' where all channels were coming in strong, but once I did find it, it was a joy to behold! Even with over 100 feet of cable leading from the far corner of my garage to the TV, all digital channels come in solid.
Despite the fact this antenna is small, flimsy, and unamplified, I would say this performs just as well as an expensive outdoor model. Give this one a shot before buying an ugly outdoor antenna. Considering its price, its well worth the risk!
Customer Review: The best in-home HDTV antenna out there! - Manhattan high-rise Summary: 5 Stars
Don't settle for imitations, this is the one to get. I have tried the Terk model which also provided for local channels...that was garbage. After seeing what this ZHDTV1 model can do, I had to nick name my old antenna the "turd".
Terk had to be turned individually for every channel and barely could hold a signal.
This one is turned in one direction and receives almost every channel broadcast.
I live on the east side in Manhattan on the 21st floor and my antenna is pointed directly at a wall, behind which Empire State is hiding.
My Samsung TV shows 4-5 bars of signal quality, and I think that's about a half of the maximum that an Antenna can do, but this antenna gives me the quality that is sufficient for me to praise it.
I have tried to find an amplified version with no luck, but judging by the current performance, this works just fine.
I had to buy mine on ebay, it was the last one at firty five bux. It was worth it!!! (that's for used)
Customer Review: Im new to HDTv, this thing made it easy! Summary: 5 Stars
Purchased a Mitsubishi DLP 62" (62525).Once the tv was set up I realized that to get a good picture I had 2 options,
1) pay comcast $5 month rental for a external tuner (My TV has 1 built it, so why would i do that)
2) Receive HDTV off the air (OTA)
This antenna is VERY simple looking. A simple coaxe connecting to the TV. i installed this antenna into aux-2, which is my tv's other coaxe input.
After installing the antenna I browsed to NBC, and ABC..and was disappointed. Then I realized I need the TV to scan for the channels.
After the scan was complete I had SEVERAL HD channels. NBC in HD is now channel 5-1, not 5. Abc is now 7-1, not 7. The quality is AWESOME...it is HD afterall! Better than the basic cable service I have.
If you dropped a lot of $ on a new HDTV with a BUILT IN TUNER, and dont want to pay your cable company a monthly fee, this is the antenna to buy.
Easy install.
Customer Review: Better than I thought even after reading good reviews! Summary: 5 Stars
I was obsessed with finding a good antenna for my HD STB, and tried many. This little antenna outperformed my big rooftop UHF/VHF antenna that was mounted in the attic, and all other indoor antennas by far (given that I live 35 miles from the broadcast stations and they're all together). I think a rooftop mounted UHF antenna would probably be better if you lived much farther from the broadcast station, and they were scattered all around you.
Bottomline, if you live 35 miles or less from the broadcasting stations, they're centrally located (b/c this antenna is highly directional), and know which direction to point it, this is a fantastic product! One word of caution, I had to install this antenna on the second floor of my house to get it to work perfectly and use a $$$ preamp I bought at [local store]. On the first floor, it only worked so-so, it might be the trees in front of my house.
Customer Review: top notch performance Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this product after reading all of the reviews on amazon and comparing to the other products.Easy to set up and it only took a few minutes to find that "sweet spot" where 8 of 9 available HDTV channels get a very strong signal. I get nothing for CBS. I should note that I live in dowtown Chicago, just 1/4 mile from the sears tower where all stations but CBS have their HDTV antannae. I imagine the CBS signal from the Hancock building (a few miles away) is not making it through a bunch of 70 story buildings to my 7th floor apartment. I love the widescreen format (I have a widescreen TV) but notice some stations do it better than others (ABC seems to just zoom and crop the standard screen size for most programming, while NBC seems to be filming the stuff in widescreen). I am running this through the newest zenith HDTV/DirecTV (HD-SAT520) receiver, another great product.
