Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Zenith ZHDTV1 HDTV-UHF Digital Indoor Antenna (Silver and Black)

Customer Review: Fantastic HDTV Indoor Antenna
Summary: 5 Stars

I live in a historic brick building, which means I cannot get cable or install a satellite TV antenna outside. As a result, my reception has been horrible, which is a pity considering my nice HDTV. I have been using a Terk TV55 indoors with limited success (I constantly have to reorient it in order to find the "sweet spot" to receive digital and hdtv channels).

This antenna is a dream come true. Small, light, easily moved, the reception of this small un-amplified antenna is FAR better than that of the Terk one I upgraded from (and a fraction of the cost, I might add). Considering the poor reception I had before, I am greatly impressed with the ability of this small antenna to overcome the thick brick walls in my building without the constant loss of signal that the Terk antenna had.

Fantastic! This is the third HDTV antenna I've tried and so far, it is the best I've ever seen. I should reiterate that this antenna is un-amplified, which means that unlike other HDTV antennas, you don't have to plug it into an outlet.

One caveat though: the antenna is not exactly rugged. One of my friend dropped it on the floor and it broke the connection to the back, requiring me to order a new one.

Customer Review: Great antenna
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great antenna. It's my first HD antenna so I can only compare it to HD through my cable provider. I use it on a 42" plasma HDTV.
The antenna is very easy to install and connect to the TV. It picked up 9 channels, including all of my local channels (except NBC). I live 3 miles from the Tower and have 10-15 stories building around me. I get anywhere between 88% and 98% signal strength. I also get 50% signal from towers 30 miles away.
Overall quality of the picture is very good even with a 50% signal. Shows are broadcasted in 720p or 1080i. I would say compared to HD over cable, image quality is 99% the same. I have a very picky eye and can see a slightly better picture quality when using a cable connection. That is when I watch a few inches away from the TV. I connected a signal amplifier (the one made by Motorola) and didn't see any difference with or without the amplifier. I left the amplifier in place since I have it. Overall it's well worth it to get this antenna. I have cancelled my HD cable subscription.
The antenna is small enough to be hidden. I installed mine inside my wood TV stand so the antenna is totally hidden.

Customer Review: Silver Sensor - Believe the Hype. It ROCKS!
Summary: 5 Stars

Purchased on Amazon and I got it in 3 days.

This semi-fragile looking thing actually WORKS amazingly well. I could get no reception whatsoever from a regular rabbit ear antenna, but I hooked this thing up and had BEAUTIFUL high definition local network stations literally in minutes. Watched the Lakers lose last night (sweet), and you could see Shaq's sweat so clearly it looked like he was standing next to you and about to drip on your floor. It was CRYSTAL CLEAR on a brand new Samsung HLP 50" set!

BTW, my physical distance to local network channels ranges from 10-30 miles or so according to www.antennaweb.org. One thing to keep in mind - you may have to have the flexibility to turn the antenna to point toward stations that are in different directions, so keep that in mind. Also, set it up high if possible (I am on the second floor).

I ordered the Gemini ZHDTV1 HDTV-UHF Digital Indoor Antenna, but I actually received the Zenith Silver Sensor. Same thing, and this is the BEST $25 I have spent in a long, long time.

This is my first post at Amazon, but I can HIGHLY recommend this product to those interested in FREE High Definition TV.

Customer Review: Low price, simple design, extremely high quality picture!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have Dish Network and cannot receive HD locals from my sat. I needed an antenna to do the trick. So, I first went to www.antennaweb.org to figure out exactly what kind of antenna I would most likely need for my house based on location, etc. I was appx 11 miles away from six stations...and 25 away from another station.

Here are the steps involved in getting this to work...it's so easy, you think I was lying.

1) Open box
2) Assemble the antenna...have your three year old help...piece of cake.
3) Place the antenna on something sturdy, then plug the wire into the back of your TV or HD receiver.
4) Turn the TV on and find your channels.

Seriously, it's that easy. For $21, this is the way to go. The pictures were crystal clear...giving me about a 85% reception. I even have tall trees on my lot. It's an ugly antenna...so my wife put some flowers in front of it on our entertainment unit. You would never know it's there now.

I highly recommend this antenna to anyone...sure beats getting up on the roof.

Customer Review: The definative indoor UHF antenna.
Summary: 5 Stars

First of all, pay no attention to the HDTV in the name of this product. We use it for standard UHF TV. As long as you're trying to receive UHF, antennas don't know the difference. For VHF (channels 2-13), look elsewhere.
We already have a roof antenna we use for most stations, but, for whatever reason, one channel weaves and wobbles a lot. We used to use an amplified indoor antenna when trying to watch this channel, and it helped, but not enough.
Enter the ZHDTV1, also known as "The Silver Sensor." Unlike our previous indoor antenna, it's not amplified. In fact, there's very little to it, but when I first plugged it in and switched to channel 56, the first word out of my mouth really was "Wow."
Mind you, nothing is perfect, and weather frequently causes the signal to wane, but even at it's worst it's far more stable than it was with either of the other antennas.
In short, amplifiers make little difference. What really matters is the antenna, and at least in the frequency range of channel 56, this one is very impressive.
