This is one of those situations when you have to buy the real thing as a replacement. The original one was working perfectly until my wife borrowed it and her brother's old minivan's power receptacle somehow shorted it out. I tried a couple of much cheaper no-brand/off-brand replacement cables -- their packages said they were compatible -- but they didn't work at all, or just powered it without recharging it. This Garmin cable works perfectly, recharging the GPS as it powers it.Customer Review: It is always good to have an extra cable for the 2nd car.

It is a nice convenience to have an extra cable and keep it in the 2nd car if you have one. If not then it is also very handy to have it inside the house and use it with the optional AC adapter and charge the GPS unit inside the house or motel when you need it. When it comes to any electrical device/accessory I do not trust any 3rd party stuff and do not take any chances, get the one from the manufacturer and this one is the OEM stuff for a good price.Customer Review: Garmin Power Cord for 255 Nuvi

I bought this as a replacement for the original power cord that came with the Garmin unit. The wire on this power cord doesn't kink up or twist and makes a nice clean appearance. Bought this as a replacement for my Nuvi that died during a recent trip. Unit works fine and arrived on time with free shipping. What more can one ask of a product. I did buy a replacement leather case for "Gertude" the pet name we gave our GPS and thus the free shiping. This vehicle power cable for my NUVI 550 worked great! It even has 'GARMIN' printed on the casing. I used it extensively on my most recent trip to St. Louis. Plugs into the vehicle 12 vdc power receptacle nicely and does not vibrate loose. Cable is of sufficient length to place your GPS anywhere in the front of the car. This was a good purchase experience and shipment was prompt with protective packaging.
