This excellent Garmin Vehicle DC Power Adapter for Nuvi (010-10723-06) is similar to that which comes with the Garmin Nuvi 250W and, I presume, some other nuvi models, even possibly other Garmin GPS devices as well. It may also work with some other products, any, in fact, which use a mini-USB socket as the power-supply port.
As has been noted here, though it is very well made, it is quite expensive for what it is. However, if you need an extra cable or your original one has been lost or damaged, this is a good additional one/replacement.
But here is the real reason for this review - the tip promised in the title: do NOT buy an AC Adapter for your device; go to PartsExpress<dot>com and enter < AC Travel Charger with 12V Accessory Outlet > in their search box. You will find an item which, for just $6.98, allows this DC cable to be used via any AC outlet. This AC travel charger will work with ANY DC cable which powers similar low-current drawing devices.
The combination is much less expensive than a DC cable plus an AC Adapter.

I travel a lot , many rental cars etc.and carry my own GPS, Garmin770. Arrived at a new destination and plugged in my GPS and no power- I thought there was something wrong with the cigarette lighter outlet but noticed the "tip" of my GTM20 was missing. I went to Amazon and didn't feel like spending the $86 for a new GTM20, even though I like hearing the GPS lady warning me there is traffic in 2 miles. I was just going to buy a regular Garmin automobile power cord when I read a review of a guy who had an identical experience with losing the tip. He described in detail how he phoned Garmin support and got the replacement tip kit(fuse,metal and plastic screw in components)-I followed his direction and persisted in holding on for >30minutes but finally spoke to a human and ordered the kit for $11 including shipping and it arrived in 3 days. It assembled quickly and easily and I didn't have to by a new power adapter of any sort. I looked and can't find the review that gave me this valuable information but if you happen to need only the "tip" this review will save you money. I have been using a Garmin Nuvi 360 for the last 2 years. The car charger which came in "Free" along with my initial purchase stopped working and was unable to charge the GPS. I was initially terrified that it may be a problem with the Garmin Nuvi. I was relieved when I was able to charge using my computer USB. I bought a new car charger and Garmin Nuvi works very well. I am able to charge it while I am using the GPS. The problem with computer USB chargers is the GPS goes into a "charge mode" and you cannot charge and use the GPS at the same time. Whereas with a car charger you can do both simultaneously.
If you are buying a new Garmin GPS - you do not need to buy this charger separately. It comes Free along with your GPS purchase. It is included in the pack though the manufacturer or Retailer may not speficy it.

So far this unit looks and works great. Our original Power Cable came apart at the auto plug side and the plunger was lost. It appears that mechanical improvements have been made on this unit. The plunger/connector looks more robust and should resolve the problem we experienced. I paid for shipping and received the unit in a reasonable length of time. The process was a much better experience than a recent purchase of a Garmin Approach5. It took 14 days to receive. Five days to ship an "In Stock" item and 8 days to receive via USPS. After my son managed to crush the original power cord with my passenger door, I came aboard in search of a replacement.
I'm quite happy with the construction of this OEM cord. Having purchased non-OEM power cords in the past (for other products), I'm quite happy to have paid (what I believe to be) a small premium for a sturdy product. Quick shipping from Amazon was icing on the cake.
Don't skimp on quality when replacing your GPS unit's vehicle power cable, unless you keep a full set of maps in your car, or know exactly where you are going, alternate routes, and points of interest along the way.
