This Garvin NUVI 650 is new to me but I have previously owned a different make. The 650 is far more easily used. I have only used it twice locally within 60 miles once and in town once. Next week I will use it to travel to Albuquerque, a distance of about 250 miles. I will use it there to find restrants etc. And the following week to travel to Longmont, CO., a distance of about 350 miles. It will be tested more thoroughly then. I love the ease of use and the fact that it quickly recomputes. Choices are simple and to the point. After initial setup satellite acquition is quick. Colors are bright and voice is easily understood. I live in a rural area of Co. and all new roads are not available. That is the same for Longmont as it did not recognize the road where the motel was. It was easy to just enter the town. A great product! This unit, out of the several I tested at the local electronics store, was the most intuitive to use featuring three choices at the outset (all paraphrased): Where to? Show map, and Other (for other unit features such as MP3, etc.)
To go to a location, you select the "Where to" selection followed by an address, store type, favorites, etc. Simply type in a few letters and the unit matches addresses, store names etc. based on only a few entries.
If my luddite wife can easily use the machine to enter an address (she never could figure out my Garmin GPS V worked) then I believe it is a good choice for most people. Plus the screen size is one of the largest in the market.
Also if you are looking around, Amazon had the lowest complete price (price + shipping) of all the vendors I checked online for this unit

I strongly recommend this product for people with the same requirements as me: just a navigation unit. I specifically did not care for the hands-free option or radio transmitter option - just a good navigation unit. Hands-free is great, but I don't want to have this in the car all the time. Radio transmitter is a great idea - but as in other ones I tried before, this one (so I've read) is no better. The quality just does not cut it for me. Bottom line: wide-screen, reliable, easy-to-use, awesome price, free 2009 maps, etc. What more could you want?
Note: I did extensive reading on other units before buying this one. Some are pretier and may have a few extra bells, but when it came to overall quality (not even price), this seemed to be the best choice.

We have purchased 4 of these units as gifts. Three of them were for our adult children in the Southwest US. Each has found them to be helpful and fun. One found a shortcut on a commonly used route from a home he has lived in for 15 years. Another has used it to find new ethnic resturants and the third is using it to find golf courses and experimenting with the languages. The fourth Nuvi is for a couple in their 70's to find new addresses in their home town.
The units should come with the carrying case and have a more memory. In order to install the newest map, I had to offload part of the MP3 file. The map download was cumbersome and time consuming but well worth it. I would recommend updating at least every other year. All in all a great product!

This Christmas I bought this Garmin nuvi 650 and gave it to my hubby who really wants to own a GPS but would not spend on one. He was so surprised that I got him a GPS. He liked it a lot. The silver color matches well with our car color.
After trying the gadget a couple of times, we realized that there are lots of shorter routes to places we normally visits. This meant lesser gas to consume and time spent inside the car.
One time I input a wrong address, got lost and couldn't find the restaurant we were going to. The lodging, restaurant and entertainment directory came in handy. As I was able to lookup the correct address and finally got to our destination.
Overall, I will recommend the Garmin-brand GPS to my friends and family.
