Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin nüvi 650 4.3-Inch Portable GPS NavigatorCustomer Review: GPS and traveling alone in this economy Summary: 5 Stars
We had a wedding in Virginia. My husband and I had to fly separately on our families free miles because we couldn't afford two tickets. Ron flew to Philadelphia to visit his family before the wedding. I flew to Virginia to be with my family. That meant Ron had to drive from Philadelphia to Fredricksburg, VA by himself. He has driven like that, by himself before, but never with time restraints. The rehearsal dinner was Friday evening and he had to be there to take the pictures. We specifically bought the Garmin to navigate for him through Baltimore and Washington, DC. I am usually his co-pilot. He was able to call me on his way down and give me an estimate of when he would arrive. It was great! We could find the location for the wedding easily and quickly. He was very pleased with the ease of operating while he was driving. We are very happy with this product. The bonus was that Ron could even upload his music for the trip. The large screen is a bonus for the near-sighted wife.
Customer Review: New Low Price, Same Great Quality Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the Nuvi 650 after I found out that the price had been lowered to about the same price as the Nuvi 350. I had the 250 version before this and found it a little small for my liking. The widescreen on my new 650 isn't too big and shows enough map area so that all I have to do is glance over and get an idea of what exactly is going to happen next and then focus again on driving. I also like that the directions give you street names when they are spoken to you. The street names are very accurate, and pronunciation is almost perfect. All in all, this is a great product. I don't really use the music player or the audiobook functions on it so this one is perfect. If you are interested in using it as a music player or for audiobooks, I would recommend getting the 660, because it has a FM transmitter on it so you can listen to the directions and your music or audiobook, at the same time through your car speakers. Regardless of what you pick, you will get a great deal.
Customer Review: Great GPS but waaaaaay over priced this year Summary: 5 Stars
This is an outstanding GPS that I bought for my mother for Christmas last year. I've owned the the Nuvi 350 for years and as long as they continue to offer maps for it, I will not buy a new one. The 650 basically is the same but with a wide screen. I'm not going to review the product further since I purchased it as a gift but I felt compelled to post a review when I saw the price of this unit compared to my last year's purchase. I bought the same "new" unit last year for $198.00 and I see that this year it is selling for $499.00. I've also noticed the Nuvi 350 is being sold for $359.00 when last year it was sold for $159.00. Granted, mine was purchased directly from Amazon, LLC. and these are being sold by third parties but for those who may be price conscious, it may be of value to know that these are actually Garmin's older units. They were first introduced when I purchase the Nuvi 350 four years ago. The newer units are half the price and use the same maps.
Customer Review: A gift... lost and then found! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this item as a gift for our son. It was originally lost in delivery. I fussed with the carrier for a couple of weeks to try to track it down, but to no avail. I spent considerable time at this, but ended up with no satisfaction. I then talked to an Amazon rep, and in a matter of a few minutes they had arranged for a replacement and even upgraded my shipping since it was for a birthday gift. Hardly any time at all and no hassle whatsoever. Kudos to Amazon... no wonder they're at the top of the heap!
As for the Garmin, it's our first foray into the world of GPS. We have nothing to compare it to... but my son loves it. He had it working quickly and seems to love it. He uses it all the time. He has admitted that he is "directionally challenged", and this seems to be helping a lot. I wrestled a bit about buying the smaller version to save some money... but I'm glad I bought the bigger one. No regrets!
Customer Review: Love this product Summary: 5 Stars
I truly do love this product! I had been advised by several friends to
avoid two other brands, as they were difficult to use. Garmin as a brand
came the most highly reccomended by the most people I had spoken to. So my
only decision was which Garmin to buy. I chose the 650 because of the 4.3 in screen and the fact that I live near the Canadian border, and wanted
maps of Canada as well. I had also decided that I wanted street names
spoken. It was easy and intuitive to use right out of the box. I practiced close to home just to get used to it and then a week later took
it on my first trip. It was wonderful. I highly recommend a Garmin. I
feel spending a bit of time comparing models and deciding what features you may need or want will stand you in good sted. I love the 650 and would reccomend it in a heartbeat.
