Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin nüvi 650 4.3-Inch Portable GPS NavigatorCustomer Review: Garmin 650 GPS keeps impressing me Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased a Garmin 650 with the large screen.
The screen is bright and high quality and that helps in fast moving
situations where I have no trouble seeing where it is telling
me to go.
When I took a wrong turn, it recalced and got me on track quickly.
It only had a few seconds to recalc and tell me to take the next
left, which it did, and then I understood how fast it was after
the fact.
I live in New Hampshire and the maps are good.
Recently I went through a part of Massachusetts that I did not know.
I got around with this GPS in traffic and in snowing conditions
well. If I went through a long tunnel, the GPS told me that it
it lost the satelite and it reacquired the signal quickly, afterwards.
The charge length seems to be okay at this time although I haven't
had long enough to completely check this out.
It is a high quality GPS all around.
If I decide to take a different route, it will keep telling me how
to get back to the original route for a while until the new route
becomes shorter the the original.
It always calcs the shortest route.
All in all, I like it.
Customer Review: Garmin'ds got it right...almost Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned various GPSs and the Nuvi 650 is tops - Bright and clear screen, fast calculations, great sound, many up to date POIs. Only knock is that once deep into a menu, you have to back out 4 or 5 times to get back to the map - Garmin really needs to tweak the menu to get back in one shot - the backing out is a pain when driving - although most systems warn you against driving and operating a GPS.......and sometimes like other brands, it will take you on a route you don't want, this is usually attributed to the faster/shorter choices which you will have to learn as you go. Also a little trick to saving the suction cup life is to wet it first before sticking it on he windshield and always take it off when done. I made the mistake with my old GPS of leaving it on a hot windshield for a few days and when taking it off I left a lot of the rubber on the windshield which made future suction weak. Garmin is the leader and their tech support and website tops. Worked great right out of the box, although you should go ont the website and update the voices and vehicles, just for fun.
Customer Review: a miracle cure for not getting lost. Summary: 5 Stars
The Garmin Nuvi 650 is one of my greatest joys when it comes to useful gadgetry. It has taken all anxiety out of driving, especially at night. No need to ask for directions or strain one's eyes with a map.
It is so easy to set up. California doesn't permit it on the windshield, so I have it right on the dash board. Installation takes two seconds. When I leave my car, it is easy to pop the Garmin into my purse. And it is so easy to program! Whether it is an address, an intersection or a store or building, it will find it for you. It is simply amazing. Best of all, it talks to you: "in 300 feet turn right on Shimel Rd." Suppose I miss the road, it patiently says, ""recalculating route," and then tells you how to proceed. It beats any backseat driver.
I dislike to get lost at night, especially since road signs are hard to read (I'm 76) and so have declined many dinner parties because of the driving hazzle. NO more. Thank you, Garmin, the best gadget I ever had!!

Customer Review: Fantastic Product! Summary: 5 Stars
I normally don't write reviews, although in this case, it's worth my time. I will caveat this review by stating up front that this is my first GPS unit and I have nothing else to compare it to.
Well, we've had this Garmin Model for about 8 months and LOVE it. You already know about the obvious stuff that GPS does, so I won't get into that, but if you think you still don't need one, check this out. We stopped in a rest area on an interstate about 1 in the morning and used the Garmin to find a hotel within the next few miles. It listed about 15 with address and phone numbers. We called several until we found one that had vacancy. Then we set the Garmin to that address as a stop along our current route. What a gas and time saver! We've used to find preferred gas stations (to get our discount); stores while traveling, restaurants, etc. I can't say enough good things about this Garmin. It works great as a GPS unit, but the extra features that I described here are awesome and we love it. We plan to buy this same model for our parents for Christmas.
Customer Review: Such a helpful gadget! Summary: 5 Stars
I got this from my parents this past Christmas and used it recently to go look at some possible wedding locations with my fiance. We had printed out some directions from Google, but we would have gotten lost if we hadn't had this thing with us. It was great! I set it so that it has a guy speaking with an Australian accent and it warns you about 3 times before you need to turn or keep left/right. The screen is plenty big and I didn't have any problems putting things in. You also don't always have to finish inputting the street name or city because it usually knows which one you are talking about before you're done and it gives you 3 or 4 to choose from based on what you put in. This is my first GPS and this one was definitely perfect for my needs.
P.S. The navigation systems aren't perfect by any means and any GPS is going to have a few "mistakes" about where it wants you to go. These may cost you a few minutes, but I think that the majority of the time these things are pretty accurate.
