Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin nüvi 265W/265WT 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic

Customer Review: GREAT Item!
Summary: 5 Stars

Purchased this after doing extensive research. I chose this model because of the bluetooth capabilities, and being from N.Y. hands free is important ($200 or so ticket!). I love everything about this navigation system, from it's ease of use, to it's multiple language selections. There are very few negatives, but I'd like to point them out, just so you are aware. Sometimes, it takes you the more expensive way. I guess it goes by fastest route, so I can't really complain, but it does not offer toll avoidance alternatives. I was uptown in Manhattan, and wanted to get back to Queens, and it sent me to the Bronx, and wanted me to take the Triboro Bridge ($5.50 toll) as opposed to the FDR drive in the city (free). I do not know the difference in distance, but it couldn't be more than an extra mile or so drive. The traffic detection works some of the time, but keep in mind it is "reported traffic" which isn't always the case. There are also advertisements that pop up once in a while, but they are so small and so insignificant, it's not even a negative to me.

Overall I do not know what I did without this product. I recommend it to anyone and everyone looking for a navigation system and wants most of the bell and whistles without paying an arm and a leg. It is easy to use, has a large screen, and makes going anywhere quick and easy!

Customer Review: Great value for under $200
Summary: 5 Stars

My criteria - good mapping software, good turn by turn voice, free lifetime traffic. Got it all with this Nuvi. I did a lot of research and for the price this exceeded my expectations. Rather then go too detailed as many have already covered this, here are my bullet summaries:

Pros:
> Maps are very accurate
> Very fast satellite acquisition
> Rerouting is extremely quick when "off route"!
> Traffic is "useful" and free! Ad support is nothing! So small I actually forgot they were there until I had to do this review
> WT - widescreen is easy to see!
> Cost
> Arrive time estimates are fairly accurate

Cons:
> Bluetooth voice for phone - speaker not loud enough to be used on highways (in my car)
> Not able to exclude roads for mapping well (can sort of due it but not intutitive)
> Would like to have less button pushing to find POI and for some other basics
> Traffic is more of a reference - not 100% up to date and not that accurate but from what I have heard even those you pay for are similar
> When in a new area (just open the box up or start it up after a plane ride in a new area) the satellite acquisition time can be long... 5 minutes or more.

Overall I would recommend this one to anyone in the market for a new portable GPS.

Customer Review: Great GPS Unit with Bluetooth
Summary: 5 Stars

I am very satisfied with the Garmin nuvi 265WT. The Bluetooth phone function works flawlessly with my cell phone and reproduces my phone's full contact list on the screen which makes for easy calls. Once the phone number is selected, the call is completely hands free and the speaker and microphone work very well. GPS Directions to destinations are accurate and the screen shows your speed and the road's posted speed limit, estimated time of arrival, and all street names as you approach them. The selection of American English voices is limited, I wish there were more. I've selected a female voice, but it is somewhat nasal. This is a great unit and a good value for the price (I paid $179). I took advantage of the one time free download of updated software and an updated map. The process was somewhat complex and took several steps of over an hour each (I have Roadrunner high speed access). The files are very large (over 2 gigabytes) and are not automatically deleted after the map updating process is complete. I had to find them on my hard drive and delete the map data files and update program manually to recapture the hard drive space. Garmin should add this step to the final cleanup after the updating process. Other than the disk space issue, this product fully lives up to its advertising. I highly recommend the Garmin nuvi 265T.

Customer Review: Just what I needed...
Summary: 5 Stars

As a 63-year-old novice to the world of portable GPS, I spent several weeks surfing the Internet and talking to friends in trying to determine which one of the wide variety of brands, models and features would be best-suited to me. I read product descriptions, technical details, and user ratings/comments relative to numerous portable GPS units. I came to the following conclusions:
(1) based upon its huge market share and industry reputation, Garmin would be a
safe bet, and
(2) minimally, my GPS would have to possess the following characteristics/features:
ease of use, a wider screen(4.3"), Text-to-Speech(TTS)directions and Bluetooth
capability.
After that, it was a relatively simple task to scroll through the Garmin models to find the least expensive one that met the above criteria. The Garmin 265WT turned out to be the one.

I've had the unit about a month. I'm not "technologically savvy" by any stretch of the imagination, but I was able to use the 265WT, without any assistance, right out of the box on the very same day it arrived at my home. It is so easy to use, and does everything I needed. However, by reading the manual, I'm discovering so many other useful/interesting/fun things it can do. What a blast! It's simply fantastic!

Customer Review: Garmin nuvi 265W/265T
Summary: 5 Stars

The Garmin 265W/265T is my second Garmin purchase. Although my original unit(Gamin 250) provided me with the basic GPS capabilities, it did not announce streets by name; it simply announced upcoming left/right turns. Also, it did not have Bluetooth capabilities. This Garmin 265W unit has both of these features which is what I was looking for. Once the Garmin unit activates in my vehicle, my cellphone automatically links to the Garmin unit. That's a wonderful and pain free feature. I have found the reception to be excellent on both ends of my phone calls. I have not experienced any feedback either on my end or has the caller on their end. There is not that tinny sound which sometimes occurs in speakerphone units. The voice coming through is very clear and natural. The only complaint I have is that when receiving a call, I often times have to hit the touch screen more then once to answer the incoming call. This can be very frustrating at times especially when your trying to focus on your driving. Be assured, I have never lost any incoming calls. I just recommend being patient in these instances. All the many features included with the Garmin GPS (i.e. Points of Interest) have been updated and improved. If your looking to purchase a GPS that is affordably priced and simple to use, I highly recommend this unit.
