Garmin nüvi 265W/265WT 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic
I have purchased two Garmin nüvi 265W/265WT in the last two years as Christmas gifts. One was for me and the other was for my mother. I definitely recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a GPS product that provides just about everything under the sun except for Internet connection.
This unit provides current traffic issues, routes and re-routes (detours) is there are construction or accidents preventing you from getting to your destination. There is also an icon that will provide you the location and directions of any local bluetooth (hands free cellphone talking), food, retail, lodging software, and so much more. In addition, you can also track how much gas it will take to reach each destination by inputting current gas prices and information regarding the vehicle in which this unit is used for.
I cannot stop bragging about how many options this product provides. As aforementioned, I definitely and absolutely recommend purchasing this product if you are in need of a GPS or actually ... even if you are not in need of one ... because once you have it you will not want to part.
It has even been reduced by over $50 since I purchased my last one. I will definitely be purchasing more for Christmas each year for family and friends. Amazon's prices are better than anyone else I have found on the Internet or offline.
Lastly, this product as well as it predecessors can be connected to the Internet for software and map updates.
Customer Review: nice GPS at a GREAT price Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the Garmin nüvi 265W/265WT 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic after my Nuvi 855 was ripped off. I couldn't justify laying out the cash twice.
I'm really happy with the 265WT. Nice size and shape, the audio is clear, and the display and presentation is nearly perfect. The 265WT has all the major features of my 855, AND it includes the lifetime traffic service. I had my doubts about the value of the traffic feature, but I've seen it in action a few times. It was a significant add-on to the price of the 855, so the 265-bundle price is great.
This bundle covers only one update, but that's fine: roads don't really change that often.
I've had the 265 re-plan a route several times without telling me, resulting in a bit of lane-changing at awkward moments. Now, I'm not sure whether this is traffic input, or finding a marginal benefit as it gets closer to the decision point, but it can come as a wee surprise.
Just for grins I downloaded the Garmin cycling team manager's voice. It's a bit of fun; the GPS makes odd cycling-related comments randomly with an Australian accent. Some passengers find it irritating, so the ability to change the 265 back to the default voice is great. (BTW, DON'T try this with Firefox: it hangs. The download should be done with Internet Exploder.)
I recommend.
Customer Review: Reliable, stable, useful, best choice Summary: 5 Stars
OKay - we have just completed THE search for GPS. I originally bought the Garmin 855 because it has voice control and so many great features and it was on sale for 1/2 price at Walmart. The 855 was not very good - it would freeze and shut off constantly even after updating software, maps and following directions. So I returned it and started researching which device to buy and wow - if you look at the newer ones like the 855, the 1490 and even the 3790 they are all filled with tons of unhappy buyers. It seems the newer fangled models promise a lot and then have a lot of problems. So, I gave up. My son says - Mom the last time we rented a car the GPS that came with it was great, why don't you buy that model? So, I googled Enterprise and GPS and found out they use the Garmin Nuvi 265W and I recognized that to be the one we used last, very successfully. It has every feature we want: street names, POI, updated maps, big touch screen, QWERTY keyboard, traffic, way points and more. AND best of all when I started reading the reviews on this model - they were fantastic no matter which site I looked. So, we bought this one and we love it - it takes us everywhere we want to go and reroutes easily. It doesn't shut off like the 855. I recommend it highly. Lots of happy users and people still buying it. I did buy the new one here. It updated the software and map quickly - the online garmin management system is nice - it records the serial number and updates everything quickly and easily.
Customer Review: very good GPS Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this GPS for a driving trip from Albany, NY to the Florida Keys. Stopped to visit 8 friends along the way and spent a couple of days each in Savannah and Charleston. I had never used a GPS before.
It did a great job of directing us to our friends' addresses and helped us in sightseeing in Savannah, Charleston and the Keys. I particularly liked the Points of Interest system. Used it to find Forts, and Plantations as well as Wendy's (my wife likes their salads). Also used it to find a seafood restaurant in the middle of nowhere, SC, it was frequented by locals and served pretty good food (this may have been dumb luck, as the system gives no ratings). This part of the GPS was not as intuitive as I would have liked, but once one got used to it, it worked well.
It is difficult to override the anticipatory typing. I wanted an address in Port St. John, FL; the GPS would give me a choice between Port St. Lucie and Port St. Joe. I finally entered the street address and said to search all of FL. It found the address I wanted in Coco Beach, FL.
Other friends were in a new development near Raleigh, NC. It was not on the map. Fortunately, I had written directions and entered an intersection nearby that the GPS knew and followed the written directions from there. By then I had become dependent on the GPS and missed it not telling me where to turn.
In general, a great product and I would buy it again.
Customer Review: GARMIN NUVI 265 WT GPS Summary: 5 Stars
I BOUGHT THIS GARMIN 265WT GPS TO USE ON A HONDA GOLDWING MOTORCYCLE. I TRIED TO MOUNT GPS IN SEVERAL DIFFERENT LOCATIONS. FIRST ON THE GAS TANK WHERE THE GOLD WING TAG SETS, ON PLEXEGLASS WINDSHIELD ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND FINELY MOUNYED THE GPS ON THE CENTER OF THE WINDSHIELD JUST ABOVE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SO IT WILL BE EASY TO GLANCE AT WITH OUT HAVING TO MOVE MY HEAD. THE SUCTION MOUNT IS ALMOST WORTHLESS UNLESS YOU WANT TO MOUNT THE GPS ON A WINDSHIELD FOR ALL THE WORLD TO SEE WHEN YOU PARK.
I ENDED UP BUYING A STICKEY MOUNT OFF B BAY WHICH HAS STICKEY TAPE AND ADDED AN EXTRA SCREW TO MAKE SURE MOUNT IS SECURE, EVEN WITH THE LITTLE VIBRATION THAT I HAVE ON OUR GOLDWING THE MOUNT WORKS VERY WELL AND DOES NOT COME LOOSE.
I'M ABLE TO SEE AND HEAR INCOMMING PHONE CALLS WITH THE BLUE TOOTH FEATURE, BUT CANNOT TALK AT FREEWAY SPEEDS OTHER THAN TELL THE CALLER TO HOLD ON WHILE I PULL TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER OF A ROAD.
THE STREET PROMPTS ARE WONDERFUL AND GIVES ME PLENTEY OF WARNING AS TO THE STREET NAME AND DIRECTION I WILL BE TURNING.
THERE ARE TO MENNY FEATURES TO LIST, BUT THIS 265WT GPS UNIT IS GREAT.
ONLY BAD FEATURE I FOUND IS THAT IF THE SUN IS AT YOUR BACK YOU CAN'T SEE ANY FEATURES ON THE SCREEN, EVEN WITH A SUN SHIELD ADDED.
OVERALL VERY GOOD UNIT. I'M VERY PLEASED WITH THE GARMIN 265WT GPS AND USE IT BOATH ON OUR GOLDWING MOTORCYCLE, JEEP LIBERTY AND MY WIFES SUZUKI.
