Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin nüvi 265W/265WT 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic

Customer Review: Hands down the best and cheapest Garmin out!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I do a lot of research before I purchase anything on Amazon, and I am rarely disappointed. I did my research on this model: Garmin Nuvi 265WT, and it exceeds my expectations.

Pros:
1. Extremely affordable compared to other "more elite Garmins" which in my opinion have more problems than their less complex counterparts.

2. Extremely easy to use. Touch and go.

3. Extremely audible (loud with crisp enunciation) for all, including my husband who is hearing impaired.

4. Includes traffic for life. This really comes in handy when there is an accident, bridge opening, or construction.

5. It also has lane assist (prepares you for what lane to get into before you turn).

6. Shows you what speed you are going, and what the speed limit is for the particular road that you are on.

7. Shows street names before you even approach them. Announces street names when indicating turns.

8. Highly accurate directions. So sensitive it shows when the car reverses.

9. It also takes the speed you are going and the distance you are traveling in order give you a precise time that you will arrive at your destination. I love this feature.

10. This is a biggy. The Bluetooth works amazingly well. My husband calls me from it all the time and I can't tell if he is calling me from his phone or through the Bluetooth on the GPS. My husband's friend has a Garmin Nuvi 265WT as well, and his Bluetooth does not work as well as ours. I am not quite sure why...maybe his particular GPS is defective or it could be the fact that his unit is several years old.

Cons:
none

BUY THIS MODEL OF GARMIN NUVI!!!!! (Garmin Nuvi 265WT). It is not only the best GPS with most useable features; it is also the most affordable. I am actually going to buy one for my mother-in-law tomorrow.

Customer Review: Good entry level GPS
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm having a hard time deciding whether or not this is a 4 or 5 star item. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and rated it 5.

I got this GPS for my dad for christmas, and I'm happy to say that this unit has worked great since christmas. It worked so well, in fact, that a visiting friend decided to get the same model as the one currently in use.

I've used this unit quite a bit and I can tell you that it really delivers on the navigation. This unit shines in a lot of ways: Satelite aquisition is fairly quick (quickest aquisition has been a few seconds. Typical is about 5 minutes or less), directions are great, and the Text To Speech feature works nearly flawlessly (it misprounces some street names). It's quite easy to drive without looking at the GPS help.

Additionally, there are a lot of neat features that come with the GPS as well, including an spedometer, odometer, travel time vs stopped time, various points of interest (including restaurants, gas, hotels, etc, etc) and the distance to those, and way more.

Probably the nicest extra is the traffic meter, but that's never quite worked right for me, and as I understand it, it really only works for certain areas as well (so, your millage may vary here).

As for why I decided on this GPS unit, I had heard that Text to Speech was a very useful feature (this would be akin to "in 200 feet turn right at Rose St" rather than "in 200 feet turn right"), so that put me in the new models, and I wanted to make sure I had a wide screen version as when you do need to look at the screen, it helps provide a context for the area. The real battle for me came down to the 255w vs the 265wt, and I would say both are very useful GPS units. I'd probably recommend the 255 over the 265 unless traffic is a really important feature to you, but if the 255 is sold out (like it was in my case), then the 265 is also definately viable.

Customer Review: For the Price . . . .
Summary: 5 Stars

Pros:
* Intuitive user interface.
* Bright, big screen.
* Auto dimming day/night based on time of sunrise/sunset.
* Customizable Points of Interest (POI) -- program locations into the system.
* SD/SDHC memory card expandable on top of the internal 2 GB internal memory.
* Lifetime traffic monitoring included with the unit.

Cons:
* Icons and sounds for POI's cannot exceed one per file.
* The latest map is a bit slow in showing when you pass streets.
* The main POI files contains 6 million (+) entries, but they are NOT editable by the end user.
* The newest map available is about 2 years old right now.
* The internal POI's have misspelled names and many like points are inconsistent with each other.
* The map/POI correction process with Navtec (the provider of the map) is painful!
* The cost of lifetime maps ($120) makes one think of upgrading GPS units every two years.

I sat watching these car GPS units develop over the years. The first ones were like my old handheld Magellan hiking unit -- slow and antiquated. These new units are far better than I ever imagined they would be.

The map is spot on. The ability to customize the POI's is a real plus, especially with Speed and Red Light camera notifications loaded in as a separate POI. Satellite sync is as quick as starting the car and backing it into the driveway. Talking turn-by-turn directions aids in focusing on the road and not signs in heavy traffic. Not as feature filled as the more expensive models, you still have one of the best North America street level maps fitting on your dash and at your disposal while driving.

Garmin has produced a winner here. After using it around town and on a couple smaller trips over the last two months, I'm glad I purchased this unit and would recommend it to anyone without reservation.

Customer Review: Garmin Nuvi = good directions
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought this because my mother got one for Christmas and I used it, it did a nice job of guiding me to my destinations with no wrong turns, had a good POI database and was responsive. Hers didn't have updated maps when I used it so it showed a few things as being off a bit. This only happened on one road where they had a construction zone set up so I can't complain much.
As soon as mine came from Amazon I upgraded the maps, (one free upgrade from Garmin.com) and mine works just as well as my mom's.

I got a case for it from Staples because they were the only place to have the one I wanted. it is leather and folds over the top of the unit kinda like an old style camera case. So far no complaints about the unit.

I like how it can change from Day to Night mode automatically, it makes it a lot easier to use now in winter because it often gets dark when I'm driving somewhere and it saves me the trouble of changing to night mode by doing it automatically.

The menu structure does take a bit of getting used to but playing with it for 15 minutes will get you to almost every feature you could conceivably need.

The Bluetooth works automatically after initial setup so I don't have to fumble for my headset while driving and the speaker is loud and clear even when driving on the highway with all the wind noise, people I spoke to said I sounded a bit hollow but otherwise they could understand me well. This is the same thing they say when I use my Plantronics bluetooth headset so make of that what you will.

One thing this model does not do is MP3 playback, I did want to get a unit that could play MP3 over the car stereo by using an FM transmitter, but those cost a LOT more so I went with the economical model.

My suggestion is to buy it if you need a fairly cheap, fairly feature rich GPS to get you from place to place.

Customer Review: Best Christmas Gift
Summary: 5 Stars

My review won't be very detailed and there are many great reviewers out there for this product. I wanted to give another review for this product and say I love it.

I've always used GPS devices from my cell phones and I learned after 1-2 years this was just not an option any longer. Maybe one day it will be the way to go but integrating so much into a phone caused me such as headache. On to my review...

I now have a Droid Eris and it works just fine with the bluetooth function. People have said there is a slight echo so I have had to hide my phone so it is not in the path of the speaker. I will use the bluetooth feature because I find it easier to talk to the device than my laggy phone.

My touch screen isn't very sensitive. I have to push a little in order for it to recognize my input. I am not sure if it is my specific device or if they are all like this.

It is true the traffic cable is big and bulky. I am not a fan of messy cables but for what it does, I don't have an issue. The fact that it can lock in to the traffic in my area and route me accordingly is amazing. I've tested it over the past few days using it for small trips to the store and to my work. It has taken me on different roads each time but getting me to work on time. At some points, I was hesitant on taking the trip it told me to take, but surprise, surprise, it worked. I like the fact it also gives me an estimate time to get to a location which is not far off, in fact almost accurate plus or minus a minute.

The customizing features are nice and it is true you can add voices but there doesnt seem to be many places to get new voices. I wish there was a free site to download these.

I purchased Garmin Portable Friction Mount and it works like a charm.

I hope this helps to answer some questions maybe not answered by others.
