Customer Review: Not so quick, but easy, worth the money

This lifetime Garmin update takes 3-4 hours on a low speed cable internet connection, but it is easy and worth the price.
Must follow the directions to the tee to make it work. Keep in mind to turn of firewalls and use Internet Explorer [not Firefox, etc] as your browser while performing the update. If this is the first time you are registering the update, make certain to go to the website listed on the back of your update card [you can not just go to the normal Garmin website]. Keep in mind that your device may not have sufficient memory built into it to install all regions of the USA, so you may need a SD/microSD memory card for your device. Thus far, I am pleased with my purchase and hope to get my money's worth by updating the unit whenever possible.

Received the card very quickly. Followed all instructions. Maps updated easily-24 minutes with broadband connection. Upon completion, info no longer in American English, but some language with hieroglyphs; American English no longer available as a selection. This precipitated the phone call to Garmin. 30 min on hold, and help was adequate. Wasn't advised to save all my favorites and way-points until AFTER master re-set had been conducted (therefore, all of those were lost). Master re-set was effective in re-establishing American English to unit. Customer Service Rep said he's only seen this happen twice in the 8 years he's been with the Company. Lucky me. GREAT product with a glitch or two. Would definitely recommend Garmin Lifetime Map Updates.Customer Review: Much needed!

Love my Garmin...it's helped us time and time again in our travels all over the US. Wanted to update so we called Garmin. We said the price is a bit too much and the rep told us to go to Amazon to buy it. Same product, better price. What a deal!! Instructions are easy to use and we can get to update four times a year for the life of the product. We were also told that if we ever noticed that something is wrong with finding an area, for example, our son moved into a brand new development with new housing and the GPS doesn't acknowledge the road, that we can call GPS and they will investigate and add the area that we described. Good product, but was a royal pain in the butt to figure out how to redeem. After spending hours searching Garmins website with no directions or way to redeem the product. I eventually called Garmin but was on hold for over 30 minutes prior to me hanging up. Eventually I emailed their customer service department and about 2 days later they sent me a link to another website and I was able to redeem the gift certificate and get the updated maps. It took several hours to download the updated maps. As I mentioned above the product is good but Garmin has done a piss poor job of providing directions on how to redeem and customer service is extremely slow.Customer Review: Good value

This is just what you expect to get. If you have not registered your GPS unit prior to this, you will do it in this procedure--just follow the instructions and it goes smoothly (read ahead in the instructions as much as you can so you know what to expect.) It does take a long time to update (a few hours), so be sure your computer is not set to go to sleep or the download will be interrupted. Not sure if the download will restart or not after a sleep, because I had my sleep setting disabled. Because I did all this, I had no problems with getting through it. I expect to keep my Garmin for quite a long time--as long as Garmin keeps issuing updates.
