Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin eTrex Venture HC GPS ReceiverCustomer Review: geocaching success! Summary: 5 Stars
This device delivered exactly what was expected. The software installed effortlessly. No updates were required from Garmin. We were geocaching with it immediately. A week later we took it with us on a road trip and geocached through all the western states. It was also useful on those long barren stretches of road in west Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, where all you want to know sometimes is 'where the heck are we?'. I downloaded POI Loader from Garmin (free) and now I can add my own custom notes to the geocache waypoints to help me find them. Practically paperless caching!
Customer Review: I use this for geocaching. Summary: 5 Stars
The Venture HC is great. Its easy to use and it is pretty accurate. The H in the HC means high sensitivity chip. This wont make it any more accurate but it will help you still receive a signal under tree cover.
If this unit is in your price range but the Vista is not then get it. Otherwise upgrade to the vista as it has better battery life and you can get the removable memory.
For me it was at the right price and has enough features for me. This was my first GPS unit and I havent had any issues with it. It has worked very well for geocaching.
Customer Review: great for the money Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this GPS to geocache because I could not afford a more expensive one. A friend bought the Garmin Colorado 400t. Although his has more bells and whistles mine gets me to within 10 feet every time and is every bit as accurate as his more expensive model. It took me awhile to figure out how to use certain features, but overall is easy to use. It is easy to download geocache locations from the internet. I have had a great deal of fun using this gps and don't regret not getting the more expensive model.
Customer Review: Great First Family GPS Summary: 5 Stars
This is our first GPS for geocaching and we love it. It is super easy for downloading geocache sites and finding them. There is a lot more to this machine than we have bothered to learn.
It would be nice to upgrade to the GPS that has the altimeter. The only other feature missing is the ability to download the clues or hints.
On the plus side, it is simple enough for my 9 year old to operate this without getting confused or lost which I think says alot. For the price, it is a bargin.
Customer Review: Excellent value Summary: 5 Stars
Excellent value; I bought it for less than $140 and it's the best GPS I've ever had
The sensibility and acquisition-speed of the GPS are amazing. It has satellite signal even inside the garage! Maybe it's because of the new SIRFstar 3 sensor
It comes with a USB cable that is a lot more practical and fast than the old serial cables. And you can use the same cable to power the GPS too! Just connect it to a USB port of a laptop or better yet buy a 12v to USB car adapter
