Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin Streetpilot C550 2.1-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS NavigatorCustomer Review: Beats Magellan RoadMate 2200T Hands Down! Summary: 5 Stars
After careful research, I decided on a RoadMate 2200T for my first GPS unit. I tested the unit for 1 week, and was impressed with all of its features, except for the most important one: the routing algorithm. The RoadMate simply overlooked obvious and viable routes too much of the time. It was hit or miss, often directing me to make a legal U-turn when an alternate, viable route (major thoroughfare) was within eye shot in the direction I was traveling in! If I was in an area where I was not familiar, I would have reservations trusting the device.
I returned the unit and purchased the StreetPilot c550 instead. Not only is the menu system easier to use, but the speaker volume is much louder, the touchscreen is brilliant, the mounting hardware is less obtrusive, and the unit is accurate. It consistently re-routed me to the nearest viable route (not a single u-turn request!). Though I did not purchase it for its bluetooth hands free capability, that feature works great with my Samsung a930 Verizon phone - and that phone isn't even listed as a compatible phone on Garmin's site. Highly impressed - just love it.
Customer Review: GPS - Garmin (streetpilot c550) Summary: 5 Stars
Before i made a decision in purchasing this product I reviewed other GPS out there. Professionals recommend to purchase a system that will tell you the street names to turn to as oppose to only telling you to "turn on the next street." This product is very easy to use. The suction cup is very strong, it will never get loose on you. This product used to be @ least $700, but the price on this dropped considerably.
We went to Orlando in April without any map. This unit brought us to our destination directly (no problem). On the way back home (Ohio), we diverted from our route and decided to go up to Washington DC. Again, no problem. While in Washington DC (heavy traffic and not knowing where to go), one of my kids had to use the bathroom (really bad), i typed in hotel accomodation. Our GPS brought us to the nearest hotel.
I strongly recommed this product because it is every easy to use, it gives you hotels, restaurants, gas stations, etc, while your driving to your destination.
This July we are going to Hilton head and Myrtle beach SC with no MAPs... just our StreetPilot c550.
Customer Review: Over a year....still going strong Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this Garmin for my wife. We had recently moved to a new area and she got a job that required her to travel daily to new and unfamiliar areas. After her first day with it she told me that it was the best gift she had ever received, and to this day...1 year later she still feels that it is perfect.
The user interface is simple, easy to use and logical. Many, many POI's. The search function can be hit or miss, and at times can take a while. Searching for POI's in another location (not where you are currently, but for example your destination) is very difficult as it never seams to find anything. I know that each system has its quirks and specific ways to input info to get what you want, but I have no idea how to make it work if you are in Utah...Ex. trying to find the address 155 N 365 W , Provo, Utah (just an example) is impossible. It is not set up to recognize the address format, if you know how please let me know.
Overall this is a wonderful product and for the price it is now- it is even better. I would buy this again if something were to happen to the one that we have.
Customer Review: It's paid for itself time and time again Summary: 5 Stars
I am so happy with this GPS unit! I love the text-to-speech feature. It makes everything so much clearer. I don't even have to look at it on busy streets. I just listen and know exactly where to go. I have used the bluetooth with my cell phone and it works fine. Several times I have been lost in an unfamiliar area, and have been able to make it home safely thanks to this unit. I am so happy I bought it, and have no complaints.
The battery life is great. I have been amazed at how long the charge is. The screen is bright and clear, and I find it to have just the right amount of detail. I am really happy with the "detour" feature. I also really like that it automatically recalculates a route if you take a different way. It doesn't just say "turn around" like some. The mp3 player works great, too! It just mutes the music momentarily to tell you the next direction.
Of course you are going to know some better routes than the GPS might when you are in familiar terrain, but for unfamiliar areas, I find that this is an invaluable tool! I highly recommend it!
Customer Review: GPS gets you there Summary: 5 Stars
This is a terrific product that does what it is supposed to do. I brought the C550 for my wife's birthday and she loves it. I got the C550 because of the built in BlueTooth connection to her cell phone. She keeps the phone in her purse sitting on the floor of the truck and when a call comes in or she wants to make a call, she just pushes a button on the C550 and it brings up her address book. She can touch the screen when the correct name appears and the system does the rest. The day after we got the GPS we went on a 1300 mile trip and it never missed a beat. The lady that speaks to you seems to get irritated if you don't turn when she tells you too. Example, we were in Williamsburg, Va. looking for a place to eat. We punched up fast food and saw a McDonald's and told Millie (that's the name of the GPS - you gota name her!) but just before we were supposed to turn on the street for the McDonald's we saw a Chick-Filet and kept going, boy did she get mad she kept saying "Re-calculating turn around in 500 feet) - Great product - good price if you look around the internet.
