Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin GSC 10 Speed/Cadence Bike SensorCustomer Review: Garmin GSC 10 Sensor Review Summary: 5 Stars
Very easy to install and configure. As of this date I have not yet calibered this against a know accurate piece/sensor. I will be doing a check on how accurate the sensor is when I put the sensor on my other trainer bike, as for now I'm just using the sensor on my other bike, the one I needed to ride and shake the dust off of.
That being said, the sensor is easy to use and with the Garmin 405, the readings, at least, appear consistent. One of the responses asked was waterproof, since I have only used this indoors, still too much snow to use the road bike outside, I can't comment on this.
All in all, the sensor is easy to use, consistent in it's read outs and seems pratical as I continue using this sensor when I start riding outside. For the price a very good and practical deal.
I might add that I bought 2 of these one each for the road bikes I most often ride, for my fun rides I'll just keep using the old Cateye. In addition, given the 405's battery life while using the GPS, I'm hoping the sensor will help track my longer 100+ miles rides without the Garmin shutting down. Numerous times a season I'll do a 24 hr ride or a 200+ mile ride and I'm hoping the sensor will give me the feedback I need and the Garmin on battery a longer time.
Regards,
Bill
Customer Review: Good Accessory For My Garmin Forerunner 305 Summary: 5 Stars
I've had my Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver With Heart Rate Monitor for awhile now and have only used it for running events. I recently purchased a road bike and bought this to track my bike workouts.
Installation was easy to understand. All the components are held in place with "zip ties" which makes it easy. We had no difficulty getting the sensors to align. The product is small and lightweight, so unless you are worried about ounces added to your bike weight (if you are, you're probably buying an expensive cycle computer), it does not add appreciable weight or bulk. After installation, you turn on your Forerunner and tell it that you have now installed the sensor (consult your Forerunner instruction booklet) and it immediately picked it up. That's all there is to it. You are then able to monitor pedal cadence and speed of your ride.
I would absolutely recommend this if you already have a Forerunner 305 and now want to monitor bike workouts.
Customer Review: Garmin GSC 10 Speed/Cadence Bike Sensor - Excellent Summary: 5 Stars
For Christmas, my wife and I bought each other a Garmmin Forerunner 305. She runs and I bike.
Needless to say, biking in Wisconsin can be a seasonal sport. With a Garmin 305 and the Garmin GSC 10 Speed/Cadence Bike Sensor, biking has become a year round activity.
The speed sensor augments the 305 by providing Cadence, Speed and distance information while I'm biking with my bike on a trainer. The sensor makes each work out more effective and gratifying when you can review the data afterwards.
The installation is straight forward requiring only simple mechanical aptitude, a scissors and phillips screwdriver. Fine tuning the placement of the senor so that the speed pickup and cadence sensor each get information from their associated targets take some patience and trial and error.
Once adjsuted the unit works wonderfully. I highly recomend supplementing any Garmin GPS enabled trainer with the speed sensor.
Customer Review: speed and cadence sensor Summary: 5 Stars
training tool. lets me know what my cadence without counting for 6 seconds all the time. that's it!
the speed and mile count comes from the gps anyway.
the graph on the computer after the workout sucks because i ride lots of hills and some stop lights. it goes from 0 to 100 and looks like an earthquake. the avg. is equally useless because of the down hills and coasting to stops.
i only use it for "at the moment" cadence count and i already have a speed sensor so it is more redundant. the mileage is off by 1 mile or so. don't know which is more accurate, though.
i have a flat spoke rim and the speed sensor will not fit on it. must tape it on. real mickey mouse.
i would only buy it if it was an incredable deal like $10.00 or less.
after you get the feel of 90 to 100 rpms it is a total waste of $.
Customer Review: Great with new Battery Summary: 5 Stars
Sensor works amazing, it is more sensitive than any other speed and cadence sensor I have used. I am specifically comparing it to the Cateye Astrale 8 which I just had before I installed this and the Garmin GSC 10 does not need to be placed nearly as close to the pedal or wheel to get a good signal. The connection has always worked while riding, even after stopping for a few minutes it still continues to work great.
The only issue I had was that when it came it appeared to work but the battery was too weak to have the signal recognized by my Garmin Forerunner 305. I replaced the battery and it worked perfectly, but it is sad to have to replace the battery on a brand new unit, but I guess that's why most products come without batteries.
Overall, great product and I am very glad I bought it.
