Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin Forerunner Quick Release Kit

Customer Review: Easy to use
Summary: 5 Stars

For those who are unaware of what the kit is: If you plan on using your Forerunner for Running AND Biking, you need this kit to attach the device to your bike. You also need the Velcro wristband that is in the kit. In order to move the Garmin from your wrist to your bike, you need to have the Garmin attached to the wristband differently than they way it attached to the original strap (like a watch) The kit contains a tool to remove the Garmin from the original wristband. The quick release kit comes with both the bike mount AND a velcro wristband with an easy release mechanism on both pieces. I love the Velcro wristband as it better fits my small wrists (5'2" female) I have not had any problems with the Garmin attached to the bike mount, and I ride off road; although I have not had any major wipe-outs. I hope this helps explain what the kit is - when I was looking at the options, I almost bought the bike mount alone. You can do that, but would have to remove the Garmin from the wristband each and every time you wanted to use it for biking... You need the separate wristband in order to easily use the Garmin for both running and biking.

Customer Review: Great Product!
Summary: 5 Stars

If you plan to use your Garmin for running and cycling, this quick release kit can't be beat. Its inexpensive, and it works well. The wrist strap is more comfortable that the plastic strap that comes with the device. Its very simple to set up. I highly recommend it.

Keep in mind that you remove the Garmin from its plastic wrist strap permanently. The kit provides a tool for this and it takes about five minutes. (You could put it back on if you want, but there it no reason to do so.) Attaching the other clip to the bike also takes about 5 minutes. Once its set up, the device easily snaps in an out of the identical clip on either the new wrist strap or the clip on your bike in about 1 second.

Last, Garmin also sells another plastic mount kit for the bike. It has a plastic (or rubber) gasket that fits over the handle bar. The Garmin straps onto this using the plastic wrist strap that comes with the device. I've never used that kit, so I can't compare. I had read that the Garmin moves around a bit on the bike with this method.

In any case, I am very happy with this product.

Customer Review: Garmin 205/305 optional mounting kit
Summary: 5 Stars

This kit opens the gate for leveraging the use of your Garmin 205/305 GPS. Now you can use your Garmin both for running/hiking/walking and biking (perhaps even motorcycling). This product contains a handlebar mount and a novel velcro closure wrist strap. The handlebar mount is easy to install, a couple of zip ties, is made of plastic so no worries or scratching or rust and it works, providing a very secure way of mounting the GPS unit to your handlebars. The mount has a clever quick release so that you can easily remove the GPS unit to download your workout data or move it to another mount. Garmin did an excellent job of designing this mounting system, the perfect way to maximize the use of the 205/305 GPS. Bottom line: If you have a Garmin 205/305, run and ride a bike you need this mounting kit. Garmin sell just a handlebar mount kit also, so if you have several bikes you don't need to purchase multiple wrist straps.

Customer Review: Excellent!
Summary: 5 Stars

This kit contains a velcro wrist strap with a sturdy plastic mounting clip. The original strap pieces are permanently removed using the supplied tool, then the strap pins are replaced into the 305 body. The pins can then clip into the mount on the velcro strap, or the identical part of the bike mount. Removing the unit from the bike and putting it on your wrist, or vice-versa, takes less than 5 seconds.

The reviewer who said you have to take several minutes to re-attach the original wrist straps after taking the 305 off your bike seems to have failed to grasp the concept; the velcro strap *permanently* replaces the original straps.

The only potential downside I can think of is that the clip on the velcro wrist strap could hang up on long sleeved clothing, like a wetsuit, so triathletes will want to put the strap on during T1. Other than that, this is a very handy piece of kit!

Customer Review: quick release kit
Summary: 5 Stars

got what exactly what it said it is. it even help me see the watch screne better because i could adjust the strap on my wrist.
one very bad consequence of using it. fellow rider had his garmin fly off the mount because the spring broke. his garmin no longer works because of it. gotta expect it, though, sooner or later because the spring for the strap now hold onto the quick release must take a lot of abuse. every time i ride i clip it on and off twice. if i'm doing a brick then at least 4 times. it has to take it's toll. i don't think the springs are designed to take that much stress. and if one spring goes there's no stoping it from flying off. good luck even finding the garmin.
but i must admit it sure is convenient to train with.
