Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin Etrex Legend GPS Receiver

Customer Review: Easy to use, versatile
Summary: 5 Stars

I had the eTrex standard (the yellow one) until it was stolen about a month ago. Decided to try the Legend because of the memory size as I do lot of work on boats. I like the features of this unit. Data entry is easier using the Click Stick, which is real selling point for me as I am constantly updating my waypoints and tracks and such. The only minor complaint I have is that I wish they would make the screen a little larger. I know this is a hand held unit, but a little larger screen would be great. I use the larger text option to overcome this option as I often can't have the unit in my hand when I need it and being able to glance over and get the critical navigating info at a glance is important to me. Overall a great unit at a good price.

Customer Review: Situational Awareness & speed
Summary: 5 Stars

I received a basic eTrex as a birthday gift. The unit worked well for me when I went kayaking and roller bladding in the park with my Siberian Husky. Two of the unexpected functions of the GPS are current speed and odometer. Now I can easily determine how the current affect my kayak in the water. And I realize that my Husky can tow me as fast as 18mph on my roller blades! I have since bought an eTrex legend. I love it even more because of the built in base map. I would recommend that to any first time buyer. Its ability to let you know where you are in relation to the rest of the world any where any time is amazing. As a male person, I find it indispensable as I hate to stop and ask for directions...

Customer Review: Will change the way I travel, drive, camp, fish and drink!
Summary: 5 Stars

This thing is GREAT! It will change the way I travel, fish, camp, drive, fly, hike, bike and drink. Easy to read screen, user friendly interface, configurable screens and a ton of parameters to chose from, and at a decent price. I looked at several different GPS's and decided on this one due to several factors, one being the screen quality and resolution, navigational features, compatibility with my map program, small, waterproof and general accuracy.

Had some other questions about it, so I buzzed technical support at Garmin who helped me after about a 2 minute wait on hold and didn't let me off the phone until I was happy. (now that's unheard of these days)

It's a way cool toy to have!

Customer Review: If you tend to get lost often...
Summary: 5 Stars

Getting lost all of the time can become very frustrating. I speak from experience! On a recent trip up north, I was in the car with a few friends and as a matter of course, we got lost. I pulled the car over and the person who was acting as navigator reached for his maps. While he was unfolding and searching, I typed in the address of the hotel (I installed the mapsource software) into the GPS and clicked on "Go To". The GPS told me that I was 0.11 miles from the hotel and displayed the fastest way to get there. This magic blue box saved us about an hour of wondering around. I have been reccomending this thing to everyone I know since this happened.

The GPS knows all!!!

Customer Review: Great little GPS
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this little wonder today, and after a few hours of playing with it am quite amazed. I comparison shopped the device with the yellow eTrex base model and the eMap. I think the Legend is better overall because it has the same detailed base map as the eMap, but is much smaller and can be operated with one hand. It is quite rugged, and even immersable in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes! It also has 8MB built-in memory, which is enough to download one's detailed city map from the optional MetroGuide software. I think if you are looking for a GPS that has all the features you could possibly need, and that is well-adapted for both the car AND the woods, this one is for you.
