I bought a Garmin c340 and heard about this mount. So I got one from Amazon. I liked the setup so much that I bought another GPS and mount for my brother. Many users wish it came with the GPS and gladly pay extra to get it. It has many things going for it that the window mount doesn't.
1. The GPS unit does not have to be removed from the mount every time
you exit the car. This saves wear on the delicate contact points
and reduces possibility of damage from the many mounts and dismounts.
2. Experience shows that with multiple drivers, units are often
improperly mounted, resulting in screen damage due to falling and
hitting the console. There have also been reports of drivers
losing control from trying to catch the falling unit.
3. By placing the entire unit/mount on the floor when leaving the
car, there's no telltale sign that you have a GPS. Police report
thieves casually walk down Mall parking lots looking for the empty
window mount, thus knowing which cars to look closer at.
4. The 3 legs of the spider mount are softly padded so as not to mar
or slip from wherever it's placed on the dash. Yet the mount is
flexible enough to allow it to be placed in a variety of positions
to accommodate different dash contours, drivers, and sun
conditions. The latter-sun conditions-can often make viewing the
screen a problem.
Get one...you won't be disappointed.

I got my Garmin StreetPilot C330 for Christmas '07 and I just got my friction dashboard mount. It's fantastic! It rides perfectly on the dashes of my '07 Ford F-150, '00 Mercury Cougar, '99 Toyota Sienna and my '96 Infinity J30. With the detachable power cord, it makes it more portable by using the unit's internal battery. Garmin should include this mount in the box and make the suction-cup mount optional.
Sure, there is always a chance that it could become airborne in a crash, but that includes anything in your vehicle that is not belted in, including yourself! If you are in a crash bad enough for it to become airborne, what or who it happens to hit, will be the least of your worries! With it sitting lower on the dash and not in your line-of-sight mounted on the windshield, you may avoid that crash!
If you keep the dust off of your dash and the feet of the mount clean, it won't slide around and will hold firmly in place. If you use a windshield sunshade in the summer to keep the heat out when you are parked, you have to un-mount and re-mount the suction cup bracket. The suction cup can actually melt in the summer heat. With this weighted, low profile, friction mounting bracket on the dash, it will not be in the way.
You can't beat Amazon.com's low price either.......

I bought the c330 about a year ago and had just before then bought my brand new car. The first car I had ever purchased brand new. The suction cup will regularly just fall, even if you wet the suction for added suction to the windshield.
Well one day I went to take the suction off and it burned onto the windshield. I never used that again, and bought this mount.
I won't say that this doesn't move around, it will move just slightly after a while, but is soooo easy to readjust that it doesn't even matter. No matter how your dash is, this will work. Nothing needs to be applied to your dash, sticky wise. All you do is lay this on there and you're done.
I allow people to use my gps all the time, and it has been in several vehicles with this mount, and everyone is so amazed by how great of a mount this is. After seeing my mount, the people that have the gps like mine, have bought this.
I HIGHLY recommend buying this if you have the C mounts that this works with. This is just as useful as the C330 that I purchased. This should be the standard mount that comes with the gps, but I guess garmin just wants more money.
Buy this mount, it's not easy or fun to get melted rubber off your windshield.

I was extremely unimpressed with the suction kit that came with my C340. Mulitiple times during a two hour trip it would fall off the window and skid across the dashboard. Your natural instinct is to grab for it and that just leads to all sorts of driving problems at 70 mph. With this dashboard mount, it is amazingly stable. I've had it for a month now and have taken two trips with it down that same two hour drive (plus my daily commute) and have never even seen it slide an inch once! The three legs are slightly tacky and they hold onto the dash extremely well. The only thing I would say that could be improved would be the center part that holds the actual GPS unit. It has screw tension mounts that are supposed to determine the rigidity of the movement in the GPS unit. Mine are at the absolute tightest and the GPS unit itself will still rotate up and down slightly with bumps. But seriously, other than that, I would say this product was designed to perfection. If you have the window suction mount, sooner or later you'll discover what I'm talking about with the unit falling down. Buy this product and you won't ever have to worry about that again. Even at sharp 40 mph turns, this dashboard mount held tight in place. Amazing product, 5 star rating...Customer Review: Awesome!

When I bought the Garmin c320, I really wasn't pleased with the fact that the plug attached to the base, and then to the Garmin, instead of directly from plug to Garmin. The suction cup feature was not good as far as taking from one car to the other. Later on, I misplaced the suction cup piece as I'd just carry the Garmin with me & run it using its battery. When I finally went to recharge it (great battery life!), I was frustrated as I needed that suction cup part to recharge it! I had the cord & the Garmin, but no suction cup to plug them together... I went for a few months waiting for it to show up (we were moving so stuff got packed up.) I went to the Garmin website and it was $50 approx. but then checked Amazon - yes, a better price and a better functioning part! This dashboard mount is a much better option than the one that came with the Garmin. I love that I can pull off the Garmin and the tiny part & cord from the base and tuck it in my pocketbook, and Easily put it right back on the mount. The weighted mount works pretty good. It has only slid off the dash once so far. I can live with that alot more than the bulky suction cup mount. Great improvement to your product, Garmin!
